Quakecon 09

This is both good and bad. Good in that I don't have to deal with driving to Dallas from Ft Worth. Bad in that I was going to use Marriott Points to stay next door. There really isn't anything within walking distance of the Gaylord. Hmm. My wife did an event there last year, maybe I can get her contact to get me a decent room rate :D

Lol, no :p I now live 15 min from the venue so I can go home and sleep....

I just hope they figure out parking there. That was my favorite thing about the Anatole, very easy to walk out and jump in your car and leave with free parking. Last time at the Gaylord it was a long hike if the trams were not running. And sucked if they were getting all the equipment on and off them.
 
The Gaylord Texan (weird name though) is so much better than the Anatole....:D Generally just a much nicer hotel, the atrium rooms are awesome. My 10yr old son is attending with me this year, he's a LAN gamer beat! Us 2 and 3 other close friends...gonna be quite the fun time!


Now hopefully all the piss ant brats that caused trouble at the Gaylord 2 years ago by destroying a bathroom and generally being assfucks, will stay home.:mad:

Any chance of people being able to crash with you? Hotels are expensive...
 
Rooms at the Gaylord are the same rate as the Anatole with the QuakeCon rate. Works out to about 160 per night. I'll be there with some friends, the gf, and little brother. This will be my 4th year I believe. We always have a hell of a time.
 
SHIT! Now I am jealous of everyone that's going... last time I went was 05 which was the last year at the Gaylord... best location for it, IMHO :(
 
Glad I got a hotel room at the gaylord as most people got stiffed when they waited for the announcement to register rooms.

I'm already ready to go, quite excited.

Part of the Modders-Inc workshop will include an "ION Chef" competition similar to the Iron Chef show. Attendees can organize into two teams to compete in an hour-long modding session using very rudimentary tools to come up with a prototype case (out of foam board I think). They will be competing with a modder you are all familiar with . . .LOL.

The workshop itself will be very informative and cover a variety of modding topics.

Other than that event, I will helping staff the Nvidia booth here and there so stop by if you are at QuakeCon.
 
Anyone wanna give me a place to stash alcohol?
Im comming up there at 4pm Thursday when I get outta work.. Would like a room close to event to stash my beer/liquor at..
 
This year has SUCKED so far. A BYOC that is not even half full, and the FCFS line has not moved, at all, and they have been lying to us since 1:30 this afternoon, first a "couple hours, then 4:30-ish, then "5 at the earliest or 6pm at the worst", now at 7:45 some tool comes in and says it's "midnight" to start letting FCFS people to the registration computers. It's sad, people are highly pissed and many have left, and the qcon is sucking due to poor excuse making, inept decision making, and incompetent staff members.

Honestly, I think this is my last Qcon, it's has been ruined by piss poor management and planning. And since they decided not to keep Kyle on with the [H] workshop....fuck it.

Gee, wonder if the party for the qcon staff had anything to do with them not being there to sign us in....and funny, seems like midnight is sometime shortly after it ends.

Fuck Qcon.
 
My buddy and I can't go till tomorrow because of our work schedules. I hope this mess will be cleared out by noon when we get there.
 
I didn't find out until yesterday it was this weekend. I'm down in San Antonio, me and my sister are gonna head up to Dallas tomorrow morning, get there in the afternoon.

Their website has been down since I got home this afternoon, anyone know what's going on? I really don't know anything about QuakeCon besides admittance being free and there being an exhibit hall, and I only found out this evening I'd be able to go tomorrow so the website being down NOW sucks. =\

A buddy of mine was stuck in the FCFS line until 1am. Apparently the merger has caused a few people to drop the ball this year.

I did however run into Blue Fox and I've fragged capreppy in COD4 several times :D
 
There have been a few problems this year, it has been smooth for the past few since the last shaky event.

Not sure wtf was on with the FCFS line, even the pre reg line went slowly, moved at least though. The amount of people running registration was less, could be due to other reasons and not having enough people there who could do it.

The website was down last night due to some big network problems there, seem to still be having some issues off and on. I Left Thursday afternoon for work and wont get back till tonight, we shall see.
 
i have noticed the lack of quakecon coverage on [H] did something bad happen
 
I packed up my things today and left. Between the Steam issues and the network problems I just called it quits. I wish the event was smaller and more community oriented than flashing lights and free porn.

Do you have more info on the [H] workshop that did not take place and why it did not? I know PC Perspective did some type of hardware workshop (I will take HardOCP over them anyday). Modders Inc did a modding workshop (which really needed a longer time allocated).

The Nvidia main stage presentation went well with fun events like bug/goldfish/mealy worm eating, drinking for strawberries buried in Vaseline, and one hairy dude getting his chest waxed for prizes. You have to love our LAN party culture where events like this are just part of the norm.

I ran into Blue Fox as well. For some reason or another, I thought he was older :D

I wanted to seek you out to meet you. Yes you schooled me on COD4, but I think I did alright for having purchased the game that morning :) I did see other [H] names that I recognized.

My buddy and I had a good time. System lag was pretty bad though. I had to turn down my resolution to 1024 x 768 to keep lag down to a minimum.

All in all, a good first time for me and my buddy. We were really only able to do Friday afternoon/night and Saturday morning due to our work schedules. Hopefully next year we can go for the entire time.
 
I was in row C6. My group was the one with the tower of bawls cans.

And capreppy, COD4 has been my main game for the past year, I got plenty of "love" from my friends for that too.

Dual n00b tube 4 evar.

Another C6er here. I was toward the back near the god damned Rock Band game they had going 24/7.

I'm very low key. I had a 23in Samsung with my CM Elite 341 w/ Gear Grip sitting behind it. I almost always had my Senn. HD555s on trying to drown out the yellers and Rock Band lol. I was one only one there running L4D off integrated graphics :eek:
 
Yeah, that Rock Band game got really irritating around 4am or so. I had my JVC HA-RX700s cranked most of the time.
 
Yeah I was there with the Austin Modders. Craig and Dwayne from Modders-Inc did a nice job on short notice, but they needed more time.

C18 represent. It was good fun, but never again in the FCFS line. Wish [H] workshop would have been there, and we can skip the Movie next time that was wack.

Though I liked the bobbing for Strawberries in Vaseline the most, batman gets honorable mention.
 
Was on A3...last time at Quakecon..has really gone down hill since I was there in 05.
 
I was one of the pissed off FCFS line guys, and was quite vocal on the qcon forums about it....I have been going since 2000, but am seriously reconsidering ever going again unless they change management or make the needed changes...but I digress....

Me, my 10yr old son, and 3 pals were on D16 and D17, I had the 37" Westinghouse lcd.

We played mostly CoD4, and had some pretty damn fun games of Search and Destroy, with a heaping of Team DM mixed in as well... [A=A] was our tag, what were you guys playing as, I am sure we fragged each other a few times.:p
