Quad Rig Help

Do you have any projections on what kind of PPD that system will crank out with 8 sockets?

I have seen only one person post times with an octal, but forget exactly what they were. Possibly looking at something between 50-60K PPD depending on frequency, maybe higher.

This system will do about 45K PPD

That alone is about my total PPD. I need to win the lottery or something. Well, I'd be happy if I could find a job too. :)
 
That's not as high as I'd thought. Is that using the current AMD socket? aka is it upgradable? 8 of those newer 6-core Opterons would be pretty awesome.

I think it depends on the board revision and/or manufacturer. Do you mean compatibility with hex-core processors?

Hmm, that's lower than I expected and would want to see. Perhaps with higher frequencies it might be better. What's the PPD estimations for quad processors and 16 cores?

That board does support all 8xxx series opterons including the Hex-cores if you can afford them.
The processors Vaulter is using are the 8347's @ 1.9GHZ they are low power and very cheap. I sold them for ~$20ea
45k PPD is not bad considering that under full load with no GPUs this system will prob consume around 700w and after its all said and done will have prob cost only $1500 - $2000 to build

a 50k GPU system will cost a lot to build and definately use more electricity.
Plus the lifespan on a GPU is really short.

When this gets "slow" faster CPUs will be available at a reasonable price point.
 
Awesome, as long as socket F doesn't go out of style for a while he'll have one hell of a server to drop procs in.

Thanks for all the info. You sold the processors for a good price. They are usually much more expensive. Good to see teammates helping one another. :cool:
