Quad is a leap from dual. Yes, I said it. Do not think twice about going from high clocked dual to mid clocked quad. But your duals are still pretty powerful.

This is not news. Most people not obsessing over their dual core (or regretting not ordering a quad int he first place) will admit to this.

It's only true in certain applications that are written to use more than one or two cores. Or if you do lots of things at once. If you think quads "own" all in gaming as well, you're dead wrong. Other than a handful of exceptions (Lost Planet, SupCom, FarCry 2) a faster clocked dual and a more powerful video card is still the way to go.

Bottom line, I think that if you're strictly a gamer or don't do a bazillion things at once, get a C2D and save that extra money for a beefier video card. Otherwise I will agree that a quad core is a better purchase for intensive tasks.
 
I know I'm mister obvious. lawl!!!! Well this is by far the thread of 2009. :D

Dual core is a dead market. No offense but it is. Use a quad before you knock it.
 
The only reason for me to go Quad is to still have a core for other applications besides BF2 on the first core when Windows Media Player again decides to suddenly load up an entire core... :confused:

The idea of doing things at the same time has fail sooo completely. You still can't game and unzipp as some silly people suggested with the introduction of Dual-core.

And having GrabIt Parring my downloads still results in bad movie playback at the same time. (laptop; T7300, 320GB 7200rpm)

But seriously: I see no added value for a say a Q6600 compared to my E6600 -for me, that is-

That's also why I hesistate with i7. I would have preferred a faster, cheaper and more energy friendly dualcore i7.
