Quad-Core

Quad core would be nice, as long as I was using 3/4 cores for gaming and one core for uTorrent.

That is a rev Fcore NOT K8L.

K8L will be quad core with 5 or MB of l3 AND alot of other major improvements. And will be made available to the consumer market in the first half of 07. Sure it will be released on Opteron first, but it will be made available to the consumer market next year.

See here, it was you that brought it up not me.I'm just correcting some misinfo that your spreading.

Are you AMD Chief Technology Officer and we don't know it ?
Stop putting your night time fantasies on AMD's roadmap.

You need an entire core to run your AV, and Spyware in the background? Sure anyone can "use" four cores by just booting a computer and loading 4+ background apps but thats not really "using" the cores in the sense most of us are talking about.

A Folding@Home client sure would use it up ;) if you don't count REAL antispyware/virus/spam/etc. protection as a legitimate "use".

What are you talkin about?

I posted links to other sources that said the samre thing I did.... Or maybe you cant read?

How the hell do you guys know if quad core is better than conroe, theres no possible way of telling right now, so cut the bullshit. As of April 2006 intel stands ahead.

What is it ahead of? Neither exists yet in consumers' hands!

Your sources say this :

-AMD licensed ZRAM
-AMD will use a L3 in the future
-AMD plans to release a quad-core in the future

You simply combined all above and said they'll ship with K8L and to quote you " be available in the first half of 2007" when in fact everything AMD ( Inquirer in fact ) said of K8L is that it will have 50% more FPU power.

Now , you're either disingenious or an idiot who put what he wants as reality.

Dude, Apparently you can't read. Both sourses say that quad core could be done this year, but most likely it will be the first half of next year. Besides, all you got to do is google. There are plenty of other sources that say the same thing.

Besides the onluy source you got is an Intel payed site that is wrong more often then not. I've already pointed out three different occasions where they were wrong in the past. Maybe you should take some comprehension classes?

Quite being a fan boy and look at facts. Fiction is fiction is fiction, any way you spin it.

its not in consumers hands, its in reviewers and ES samples are in benchmarkers hands over at xtremesystems.

Quad-Core AMD's are vaporware as far as anyone is concerned.

If i can show you conroe benches from a third party and you cant show me these 'AMD K8L' benches, in the real world that means the company with working samples is ahead.

In Q3 to Q4 quad core Opterons will be out in 1207 pin form. As for L3 cache for AM2 it will Happen.

For opterons it will be Q3 or Q4 in 1207pin and when it will be a desktop i dunno yet.

Prolly within the first half of next year. That is sometime between january, and june 2007. For socket AM2.

And for Socket F, it will be sometime before the end of this year.

What is needed is developers making multithreaded games. Then all of a sudden we'll have huge increases in performance, and all this "who can really take advantage of four cores?" stuff will stop, and we can enjoy the performance of four cores working our games.

Bingo. This applies to all applications not just games. As dual and multi-core processors become more predominant this seems to be the natural evolution but we'll see. Limiting a quad core by assigning each processor one limited instruction set is the most basic use of it, not the most efficient. Multi-threaded applications and games will make use of any and all of the cores that are available to them but they require a bit more ellegance on the programming end :)

No mister , you have no clue what you're talking about as shown in a thread about AMDs 65nm process.

Do you understand the difference between "could be done this year" and actually doing it ?
Heck , if Intel wanted they could do a quad core on 130nm but actually doing it is another matter alltogether.

Both AMD and Intel will have quad core parts.Intel publically stated Q1 2007 both for desktops ( Kentsfield ) and servers ( Cloverton ) and demoed both chips at this spring's IDF ( march 7-9 ).

AMD said nothing , hasn't demoed squat on 65nm , not even a non-working CPU or a wafer or at least SRAM , no roadmaps for quad-core except sheer speculation and your wet dreams.Allow me to remain a skeptic on AMD's magic power of "being able to do this and that in less time than you could say quack " (where this and that range from a functional 65nm process to ZRAM and L3 chips )

I agree with most of the above text

They demoed a 45nm SRAM chip:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2734&p=2

AMD also gave us a brief update on 45nm, stating that they have successfully produced a SRAM test wafer at 45nm.
[...]
AMD's 45nm SRAM test wafer follows a little over 3 months after Intel demonstrated a similar 45nm test wafer.

While I am assuming here, I would be suprised if AMD produced a SRAM test wafer at 45nm without having an SRAM test wafer at 65nm.

On to the other topic:

I heard that Geforce 7800 GTX 512MB were in the hands of reviewers before their release, but for most people they were -and mostly still are- vaporware due to the lack of retail availability. While I am not implying that this is bound to happen with Conroe, there is a non-zero probability of this happening, hence until I see newegg carrying the Conroe at the pricing that Intel sets forth, it is non-existant for me. Independent of how many (p)review samples there are, the state of a product from a consumer perspective is binary:
  • I can buy it
  • I cannot buy it
I cannot buy AM2, Conroe or K8L retail at this point. There is nothing else we need to say about this topic, since it has been discussed (flamed?!) into death at this point.

Dude!?

Your kidding right? The THREAD TITLE is QUAD CORE!!

I've shown links that say they COULD do it this year, but rather they MOST LIKELY will do it next year. I've given links to solid reputable sites, and shown the search term I used to get them. What more could you ask for?

OH YEAH, that's right your a zealot fan boy, that can't read and dont like facts.

I dont think that site is correct. Just going with what I've read elsewhere. I could be wrong, but only time will tell. Besides that I cant ever remember once that, that site actually had accurate roadmaps. Remember the 2400+? Remember more recently the presscott? And even more recently the yonah?

They were wrong on all of them.

There is ALOT more where that came from. Just do a simple google search for "AMD 2007 roadmap"

This is the link I posted earlier that says otherwize.

Typical user? Waste of power? Isn't this [H]ardOCP???
Bring it on.

I want a Quad Quad Core FX system with top-of-the-line 1GB Quad video cards in SLI/Crossfire configuration, a PPU, 32GB of DDR3 (as SYSTEM memory), a nice large RAM drive, 4-8 of the fastest HDs on the market RAIDed up the wazoo, a few terabytes of storage drives and all of it PhaseChange cooled in a nice Lian Li case.

Basically something so I can piss in Todd Howard's face when Oblivion tries to bring my system to a crawl.

Is interesting considering your title 'Quad core.' K8L is not specificially a quad core chip, it is a K8 chip with a second 64 bit FPU on the die.

Anothering interesting statement since: we have not seen a K8L, working or otherwise, AMD has not given any solid performance indications, we don't when it's even coming to the desktop - other than in 2007.

You want to compare a chip that's had a few ES samples benchmarked (check xtremesystems forums), with impressive results, against a chip that is a phantom, it doesn't exist yet in any meaningful way to us.
Yawn.
People should get banned for starting threads like this.
