QMD's Down for the Time Being

It figures. I just started folding QMDs earlier this week, on 2 boxen. Well, hopefully it will make my majority of AMD boxen pull me into the top 20 producers.

So will P4's with the -advmethods flag get other units or do we need to remove the flag?

You don't need to remove the flag.

So how much total PPD do you think the large teams averages will go down?

I bet a solid 25%.

I guess we'll see who has more QMD intel boxen between us and OCAU.

I think we should be happy that they are stopping them, since it shows how we, the folding people, have made progress this year. They now have enough data that they can reliably ananlyze everything for this QMD project.

I forget what the drop was ([H] vs. OCAU) the last time this happened. Maybe go dig up past threads or what not.

Those monster folders on OCAU are not running QMD's I'm betting...

this isnt good :(, ive been riding on QMD's since the start of January

just a quick question... does the -advmethods thing in EMIII do anything? i dont have it clicked but i still get QMD's.

I would think they will see a little more percentage drop in production we do, just doing some VERY rough calculations in the last six completed weeks.

We have completed 174,798 work units for 24,871,180 points, which averages out to be ~142.2852 points per work unit.

They have completed 124,983 work units for 19,430,862 points, which averages out to be ~ 155.4681 points per work unit.

On the very broad assumption that QMD's were responsible for their increase in points per work unit (and if the math that I did the box of a Guiness 4 pack is correct) then we should see less of a percentage drop in points then they do.

It’s the widget in our cans that does it. The patented GUINNESS® In-Can System is an ingenious award-winner. A tiny plastic widget jets a stream of bubbles into the GUINNESS® beer when the can is opened. The result is black, white and beautiful. 800 million widgets can’t be wrong.

Wow...I just noticed that I picked up a 56 pointer......

....I haven't got one of these on the main rig before.....

....wow how is it taking 6 minutes per frame.....

....this sucks.....

oh well :( =/

this explains why the extra wu's..

Well, hopefully these will be back before too long, as the core in general was quite speedy, the memory requirements were huge, but the core itself was damn fast. What are the majority of you guys ending up with in the meantime? I'll be interested in seeing what WU becomes the predominant force now.

Both my QMD machines pulled p1700_TZ2_nat_g2880 (GROMACS) (56 points) and p1705_TZ2_unf_g3230 (GROMACS) (56 points). Even my laptop, which is setup to pull QMDs if it were able too, pulled p1708_TZ2_nat_g3580 (GROMACS) (56 points). :(

Welcome to what my AMD boxes have been feeling lately. There are only 7xx gromacs (or equivalent low point gromacs) available, or so my luck appears to be. I got about 30 in a row on my 165 before I finally got another type of WU.

Almost a week ago now I set everything to prefer timeless and now I only get tinkers, which are far better PPD for me than 7xx gromacs. Maybe a bunch of us will switch to timeless only and we'll finish the tinker project once and for all :p

Are QMDs how you mofos are getting all those points? I'm not doing anything different and all of the sudden I check the stats and my 24hr average isn't even in the top 20 anymore. Do I just need to put the -advmethods flags back on to get QMDs when they come back?

You have to have a Intel CPU and a Gig-O-Ram for starters. Then -advmethods and allow large work units set. They pay a 100% bonus over normal work units.

OK, so I need to stop in here more often. The only ones like that I have are servers. I've got a couple of AMDs presented in glorious Gig-O-Rama, but I guess they don't get to join in any reindeer games.

You can run QMD's with 512 meg of RAM. I don't really suggest doing that, but it's possible. Until this weekend, it's what I was doing on my work machine, P4 2.8 w/ 512 meg o' RAM. I'm also using integrated video. 1 whole meg shared just so I could get QMD's.

Now, it's back to two instances, one gromac and one timeless tinker.

Same here. gonna have to setup the systems for it again, update fold server, and raise the temp some more. It was getting a little chilly in here anyways. :p

Sooo, are you running 1024x768x 256 colors, or 800x600 with 16-bit color? :p

1400x1050 with 32 bit color. Don't ask me how, but it works. :D And this is on a 17" monitor. No one but me can read anything on this system. It's a hell of a lot better than the 800x600 everyone else was running. They're now stuck at 1024x768 due to a new app we use that requires that but that's still too low of a res for me to use if I can do something about it.
