Somebody have experience? Any recommendations, motherboard EP45-UD3LR, air.
 
I've got the same setup, really I just changed the FSB to 400, left the multi at 8.5, left the volts stock, and it's all golden. Could I OC higher? Probably, but I'm fine here. When I get the itch to upgrade, I might just OC some more instead.
 
I have that setup and am at 405 fsb and 8.5 mult. The bios was a bit tricky, but after reading some articles online I got it cranking. I think my ram is limiting me anyways. Im running 8gigs, 2x4 of some really cheap corsair.

What heatsink? Because "air" could mean almost anything including the stock heatsink. What are your temps at load while stock?
 
i overclocked my brothers q9550 on an x38 board with a megahalem.

got it to 450x8.5 with 1.33v with max temps of 53c (prime95 small fft's)

was easy as pie. used linx 10 passes to confirm basic stability and prime95 for 6hrs to confirm true stability.

I have Tuniq Tower 120 lapped, temps on prime95 55C

4GHz Is more than doable on most high end air cooling, I can hit 4.25GHz with my TRUE no problem, temps don't even go over 80C unless its quite warm in my room.

Yep. Heat is usually not the limiting factor in hitting 4GHz+ on a q9550 unless you've just got a crappy cooler. Getting to know the "intricacies" of one's motherboard is what it takes (things like termination voltages, reference voltages, etc.)

That's about what I run with a Scythe Mugen 2...Good enough for me. I can run that voltage up to about 4Ghz, but it's kind of flakey. Rock solid at 3.8Ghz.
 
anyone care to post their bios settings? I cant break the 405 mark. I do have 8gb of crap ram though 4 sticks of 2gb.

Shouldn't make a difference as long as you run the right divider on the memory. 405 at 1:1 is still only 800mhz. Bump the voltage a little bit on the memory and the Northbridge and see if that helps.
