Any info as to the performance bump- not guesses. There seems to be just enough info trickling out about Q9450 allocations to begin to make this less than appealing.

You might be able to find tray/OEM chips This month. Maybe. IT sounds like the 45nm chips are really in tight supply. E8400's second wave not until April (Per TankGuys). maybe this means that Intel is running the first wave of Q9450's, Maybe not as I'm not an insider.

I might HAVE to get a 6600 at MC now. Grrrr.. Been sitting on components since Christmas for this build!

Just have to be patient. I am in the same boat as well as a lot of other people. It's only a couple more weeks and you will have all the information and not just speculation, then you can make a more informed decision, no?

Sit back relax...

Price might also be an issue.

The Q6600 is being sold for $254 w/ Free Shipping at New Egg.

I think the Q9300 and the Q9450 are going to be in short supply. Demand will jack up the prices, then you have price guaging too...

I would not be surprised if the Q9450 sells for about $400+ when it's first released. To some, the difference between $240 and $400 is nearly non-existant, but to gamers on a budget... that's a big difference.

According to another post here, there will be price drops around mid to late April so if you can wait, wait. If not, grab that Q6600 now and have fun with it. I don't think there will be many 45nm Quads to be had right away and like someone said, with the way supply and demand works, you might be considering selling a limb or two.

Yes, the Q6600 will most likely see an April 20th pricedrop to 200 dollars across the board due to the 45nm Quads being out.

I'm in the same boat. Just keep waiting and waiting. I really want a Q9450, might settle for a Q6600 though :/

But see, if you preorder you wont have to pay any hiked costs.

350 aint bad for a Q9450 brand new boxed. So im getting a Q9450.

Run with the Q6600 for now, and dump it on ebay in 6 months and get most of your money back out of it. They are still selling there for about $220.

So you think they will go for 200+ on ebay when people are gonna be selling them in store for 200 or less?

Nope, not a chance. You will notice I said MOST of your money.

But you will still be able to get $175 or so on ebay in 6 months.

Just throwing out an option for someone who does not wanna get ripped by Intel for $400 bux for a processor that will prolly only be 15% better than a Q6600. The Q9300 was only 7% better in that review posted above.

There is no telling how quickly the price will fall on the new processors. If the E8400 is any indication, not very slowly.

From the above posted review.

My point made exactly. Not even a 15% improvement.

If money is no object, buy the latest and greatest. Otherwise......

ask yourself what you'll be using it for. Do you really think you're going to notice a big difference? Unless you're gonna be encoding audio and video, playing crysis, downloading all at the same time, you're not going to realize any significant gains in real word tests. I moved from an old Athlon X2 4800 to a Q6600 and to be honest, I noticed no difference. Programs didn't open anything more faster compared to the old cpu. The only reason I upgraded was I was upgrading my entire system with a new mobo, cpu, ram, video and psu and case. Save yourself some money and get the Q6600 and you'll thank me later. And if you think the Q9300/9450 will be selling for retail when it first comes out, you're nuts.

The main speed difference between the two will be in SSE4 optimized applications. Outside of media encoding there is virtually nothing that uses that.

Yes, the IPC is better with the new 45nm processors, but it's not huge. Considering this isn't a major revamp of the core, that's not surprising.

The main difference between the two might be overclocking. Until the new processors have been out in retail for a while, we will not know the true overclocking potential of them. Keep in mind that many Q6600's seem to be hitting around 3.6Ghz and that's a 50% overclock which is big no matter how you look at it. I have one on air cooling which is doing 3.51Ghz and heat is not what is keeping me down on that one. It's just the limit of that processor. The other I have in my possession runs at 3.6Ghz and it's on an old first gen Koolance EXOS. There are several air coolers that do a better job than this thing.

Also keep in mind that the 45nm processors use a higher stock FSB and lower multiplier. Hitting 3.6 with a Q6600 on most decent motherboards is not a problem because of the 9 multiplier. 400mhz FSB is easily attainable on a lot of boards. To hit the same speeds with the Q9300 or Q9450 is going to be a bit tougher because of the lower multipliers and going higher than that is going to be a lot tougher. It will also require higher end RAM in many cases. I like the prices of the DDR2 800 RAM right now and while it will overclock a bit, I don't have to worry about that very much since 400 FSB keeps the RAM running at stock speeds.

One other thing to keep in mind is the price difference. At stock speeds, the extra performance does not match the extra price.

is the guaranteed Q6600 at clubit.com really G0 or is that just scam?

In Hong Kong you can now pre-order the Q9450 for USD$450 vs. readily available Q6600 for USD$270.

So I wonder, what would the better buy knowing I have a watercooling setup ready with D-tek fuzion waterblock and MCR-220 rad with 655 pump ready to overclock to as close as possible to 4GHz (well maybe I am asking too much)?

4Ghz on water with a Q6600 is not unreasonable at all. With a good board and a good chip I would say around 4Ghz is the limit, but it can be done without too much fuss. Of course, I can't comment on how well the Q9450 will OC, but the lower multi won't help.

See the way things are shaping up, the Q6600 looks like the better deal ATM.

The price of the 9450 seems way to high for the minimal performance gains, and extra sse instructions. Of course I am going to wait and see, I have been waiting (like many other people) for a a while and not buying the Q6600 wating for the Q9450. More and more I read on the net it seems like the price of the 9450 will not

Whats your G0 running at right now nag? how long ago did you order it?

I ordered mine in September or October of last year. I am currently running it at 3GHz with an effective 1.232v (1.224v with VDrop under load). Using a TRUE 120 to cool it, temperatures hit 49-50-57-57C across the four cores at maximum, in a P180 with all fans on low.

BTW, I also ordered from ClubIT for the G0 and am running 3.2Ghz at 1.24V load, TRUE 120 55-58C under prime P182 all fans low. I haven't tried to hit 3.6, but I doubt I would have any trouble doing it, I just don't need any more than 3.2 really... and probably not even that.

I took some time last night out of curiosity to see if I could make 3.2GHz and with what amount of effort. I didn't run P95 overnight or anything, but it went 3+ hours at 3.2GHz with 1.248v. Temps moved up to 51-51-60-60, so still not that bad. I might leave it there for now.

I got my G0 up to 3.5Ghz at 1.38v. I am not sure about temps but I've used it like this for a while. Anyways it does make a difference from 3.2 to 3.5 in Crysis at least. I use the Arctic Freezer Pro 7 HSF... bang for buck HSF!!! I can't hit 3.6GHz on my motherboard (Gigabyte P35 DS3L). I think its a limitation of the chipset. See my sig for more specs.

I have a Q6600 since the first day of price drop and it was well worth it. I put it in a new build, and i got the G0 revision of the chip, which helps for overclocking to 3 ghz from what i know

This box is very quick i have a 680i motherboard from eVGA and the next thing i need for it is a graphics card!

I would recommend this chip, but if that other one beats it from stock performance and can compete in price, maybe that other one would be a better a decision

Is that the only thing the G0 revision of the Q6600 chip does - better overclocking?

Are there any other benefits?
