q6600 temps and frequency

just got my q6600 rig working and my temps are as below (look at pic) and speedfan says they are normal, but thats at idle if i even utilize them a bit more core0 goes beyond 42c.

and my frequency question is why does cpuz say my processor is running at 1.6ghz

can anyone tell me if my temps are right since its summer and its pretty hot in my house when we dont use AC, and my frequency whats up with that? cpuz occasionally says im at 2.4 but mostly at 1.6.

Seems like Speedstep was only implemented by Intel to annoy hardware forums.

We should have a sticky for this though, it is somewhat difficult to search for.

tell me about it, this was my first computer that ive ever built so im still new to the scene, i know a lot but definately not enough apparently.

I'll be nice and teach a noob how to use "Search" It is located in a right hand corner called " Search This Forum" In there you would need to put something like "low speed" "low GHz" "1.6 GHz" "1.6" as for a temp: "temp(s)" temperature" "q6600 temps" quad core temps" etc......

I can count at least ten threads from those searches that correspond to your noobie question

yeah, if you look at your multiplier, it is being set to 6 (hence the slower processor speed). your mobo is doing this automatically because there is very little activity on your cpu. This is conserve power.

thanks, i know how to search obviously, im a webmaster lol.

as for posting this thread well i didnt think it was normal and maybe thought it was a buggy version of cpu z but i guess not, i google a lot of things trust me but i didnt think this was normal or was google worthy, so i decided to seek help at the forum which is what i thought forums were for! HELP! but its fine i found my answer thanks guys.

you must be using the stock heatsink fan? temps seem a bit high for 1.6ghz but who knows what the ambient temps of your house is

if you could id upgrade the heatsink fan to a sunbeam core contact freezer for like 36$

Temperatures don't have a bearing on performance, plus he's far from damaging his chip/affecting longevity.
