Hi,

I have a Q6600 (the non-G0 one). My cpu fan has been very loud for a while. Below is a screenshot of the temps when it is on idle and I think they are higher than they should be. I was wondering if I should get a new heatsink and fan. I want it to be quiet. Or is there another fix?

Those are really high temps for idle. Try reseating it first. If they don't drop, then yeah, you need a new HSF.

Looking at the screen shot, it look like all the devices temperature is high.

How is the area flow in your case?

THanks ganesh21!

I am looking for something a little cheaper. I don't overclock but I want it to be quiet.

Reseat your stock heatsink one of the push pins is not seated/inserted properly. The stock heatsink is good to 3.0GHz or better.

Jump to about 3:30 in the video. ensure your pins are orientated correctly - the video shows you the proper position for installing. PRESS HARD.

+1. Also, take a can of compressed air or a vacuum and clean out all the dust from your case and the CPU heatsink. Then check your temps and see if they've improved.

If you are unable to get your temperatures down, then this heatsink would be a good choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003
