Q6600 or Core I7

I'm going from an Amd fx-60 and Abit Fatality a8n sli.

Question is- should I go with a Q-6600 and just spend around $400 for Ram , mb , processor

or bite the bullet and go core I7- spend over $700 for Dddr 3 Ram , mb , entry processor?

What would you do?
 
read the reviews up top like everyone else and come up to your own conclusions.

i say wait till next year :D muhaha or during the sales this year :D
 
Although if you do wait and wait and wait you do nothing more. Progression rate of technology is not going to stand still.

If spending the money on the newer stuff isn't going to hurt you, I'd say go for the i7. Even the lowest end i7 is going to easily outperform the Q6600 and it looks like it's going to be a decent overclocker as well. The low end i7 should be reasonably priced and if the motherboard and RAM don't cost you a fortune, I wouldn't go with the setup with the dead end upgrade path.

This is coming from a guy that likes the Q6600 enough to buy and run 3 of them.

 
Wait. The Q6600 is already somewhat old tech; you'd get a significantly better improvement with an i7 system.

(looked on google- but I didn't see anything)
 
There's no date available to the public yet, but I'd guess either late 2009 or early 2010 based on Intel's tick-tock strategy.
 
thanks, I heard- I just heard 3rd quarter of next year.

Pretty long wait, I might just have to go with the first generation of i7. Correct me if I'm wrong- but I heard that the next revision of i7 is supposed to be a scaled down version of the current i7 that will also be cheaper.
 
I'd go ahead and bit on an i7-920. I wouldn't buy immediately but rather look for a sweet deal on DDR3 and/or X58 board between Black Friday-Jan 1... I think that an i7 will keep you from hurting for a long time.
 
But then again , these might be in high demand and numbers could be low - especially before Christmas.
 
Early adopters always pay a premium. The Q6600 is clearly the cheap choice. What is a tougher choice is people eyeing the Q9550. That's a tougher call to make because the saving are much less. Shoot the 920 is going to cost less than the Q9550. Obviously mobo and ram still make the Q9550 overall cheaper but its a tougher call to make
 
i'll go with the DDR2 route.... you can get 8GB ram for cheap.. a good 150$ motherboard... the 400 bucks you save can go to a faster hard drive or something
