Q6600/eVGA 650i

Everything was fine and the hdd crashed(shouldn't even messed with the pos). Anyhow, ran out and bought a new hdd and did a fresh install. All cores are enabled in the bios, but XP doesn't see it, cpuz, speedfan, coretemp, all report the same..... 1 core. WTF?

BIOS is P03, no need for P04 since I'm not running a 45nm.

I'll try a CMOS clear

The whole build has been a nightmare, and I blame it on this POS board....should of stuck with an Intel chipset.

Now it won't post.....I should of takin' the 3 week ship time on this board as a sign!

nope and everything is set to stock. Of course the only core I can monitor is # 0

Remove all of the devices from system except video card, ram, and cpu. Disconnect HDDs, DVD/CD ROM drives, USB devices etc.

Reseat CPU and RAM.

Try posting with just CPU, MB, Video and RAM.

How many cores does BIOS recognize? If problem persists - bad mb, cpu, ram, power supply or video card.

If problem goes away - add one component back to system at a time until issue returns.

BIOS recognizes all 4 cores.

I have had off the wall problems all day with it, I honestly think it is the mobo.

I meant more of the northbridge overheating...sure the heatsink isn't loose? How hot is it getting when it's running? Does it post after it cools down, but not when you've reboot it?

Sounds like the board is defective or on its way out. Did you buy it second-hand? 3 week ship time doesn't sound like any respectable retailer I know of. Maybe it was abused before you got it -- those 650is shouldn't be asked to do high FSB speeds unless you replace the on board cooling.

Bought it B-stock direct from eVGA, it took 4 phone calls and multiple emails before it got on the truck. 3 weeks from the time I paid.

I am starting a fresh XP install, we'll see how it goes.

I am going to RMA this board regardless, when I get the new one it will have a 90 day warranty and will be FS for $45 shipped, in case anyone needs a cheap board.

I think your being a little hard on EVGA and Nvidia. A defective piece is going to sneak through quality control every once in a while. Theres no way you can transfer the warranty to someone at this point, so I suggest you give it a shot, the 650i from EVGA is a decent board, in my experience.

What is your psu?

Right mouse click on My Computer, go to properties, go to the Hardware tab, press the Device Manager button. Expand the Device called "Computer", what do you see? If you see "Standard PC"... there is your problem.

When you install windows, at the screen where you press F6 to install raid drivers, press F5 I think it is, now it looks like you only get 2 options (standard PC and i486 or something), press the Up arrow until you are all the way up the list, find "ACPI Multiprocessor PC".

Ok, sorry.... 3 hours of sleep, wife is at work, and the baby is teething:(

Re-installed XP, I have all 4 cores back.

Now, on the eVGA CD, what drivers should I install? Just the ethernet driver I would assume.

Leave, ntune, smbridge, realtek, and media manager out completly, since I'm not using raid nor audio.

Right?

Tryin' to take it slow this time.... then I'm off to bed. :)

I'd install the SMbridge as it is important, but none of the rest. Did you disable the sound in bios? Don't use the Nvidia IDE SW drivers or the Network Access Manager.

I can go back and install it. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure what it is....

rofl, you brought that POS b stock board? What the f*** is wrong with you.

Oh wait :(:(:(:( i brought the same bstock board and its nothing by problems. I got it all working now, but everything is so weird. It has a break in period before new things work. Its annoying. Like, the ram only ran @ 2.1v which is specced @ 1.8v. Now its stable @ 1.9 after running for 1 day.

I couldn't get my network card installed in windows because it would freeze up my control panel to setup the ip addresses.

This motherboard sucks badly!!! :(:(

However, since all is well now im not going to complain really. Dont expect anything better from your new RMA'ed board. I guess is all the b stock 650i suck lol.

just update your bios because mine booted fine into bios and windows with an old bios. Im not sure why, but it was locked @ 2ghz when its a 3ghz cpu. just update your bios and see if some problems are fixed.

Quote from B-Stock page at evga.com

EVGA is now selling B-Stock product at a reduced cost! B-Stock simply means that customers have returned these products to us. We have tested all the products available and found that they meet or exceed their performance level. Since these are no longer "new products" we are giving you an opportunity to purchase these cards at a great price. These products will ship with a 90 day limited warranty. All B-Stock purchases are subject to a 30 day return policy.

Exercise your warranty.

I think it was a bad install of XP. Still, not worth the $60 because the price starts to creep up with the additional cooling needed. No HS on the mosfets or the SB, a crappy passive on the NB.

You've officially lost your "nForce Bitching License".

Next time read up a bit before you start installing things. Almost literally anyone on these forums could've told you nTune is nothing but trouble.
