what are some of you using for 24/7 stable overclocks on a Q6600 with say 2 sticks of 2GB ram ?

i'm in the market for a new system and was wanting a quad, just wondering how high i can expect it to run folding.

please post air or water cooling, voltages, temps i can look forward to, thanks :)
 
3.1 @ stock voltage, running 57/57/51/51 on the 4 cores
RAM is at 518 which puts me at DDR2-1036? (2x2 OCZ Gold)

Cooling is fairly mid-range....using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, which is GREAT for the $30 or so I spent on it

 
I have 7 G0 stepping Q6600's and every one of them does 3Ghz on the stock cooler at stock voltages. Seems like a sure thing.
 
I have 2 GO running 3.6, 3.5 at 1.32v, 1.3v respectively....works good for me.

 
3.52 (440 x 8) with 2 x 1GB ram. 1.32v after droop.
56-57c when the ultra 120 extreme is clean.
Stability: It is my main rig and is used daily for everything under the sun and I have had uptimes of over 30 days.....yes, even with it running Windows.

knowing my OCing past luck more like 3.0 though :)
 
I'm hopeing for 3.2Ghz from my new rig.
That should put me above the 4K PpD mark.

Huh? 440*9 isn't 3.52 it's friggin 3.96 but 440*8 is correct :)
May I suggest that you run at 392*9 as seeing this should bring you a cooler temps and the same speed.

My 6600 OC:
C2Q G0 9*400 = 3.6Ghz
RAM 2x1GB DDR 800 @ 10:12 (CPU : DRAM) effectively running 960Mhz ;)

 
I have 2 Q6600 - GO

3.00 Ghz @ 1.375V

I was running at 1.350V but got NON errors about every 5 units.

Had to give it a little extra juice. Project 3060 really pushes the quads!
 
390x9@3.51Ghz 1.42 vcore after vdroop

400x9@3.6Ghz 1.41 vcore after vdroop

Temps are around 55-60C. The first one has a Thermalright Ultima90 w/ 120mm Antec Tri-cool fan. The second has an old Koolance EXOS with Danger Den TDX waterblock. The Ultima90 w/120mm fan seems to have a bit lower temps compared to the watercooling.

 
I wish I could push my Q6600 that far.

I feel good at 3.0hz ...3.6 would be insane.

I don't think I can since I am air cooling (Artic Cooler Freezer 7).
I don't have an exact temperature, but my heat sinks get pretty warm.

 
install CoreTemp or Everest or SpeedFan and get a real temperature :D

I've got mine at 3.1 with headroom on the Freezer 7

I can't... The q6600 are on my disk less folders .....
Wish I had a way to check the temps ....

I would like to push it, but i am 99.99% stable right now, don't wanna push my luck!

Just buy this infrared thermometer. Then you can check to see how accurate speed fan, or any of the others really are.

Although, you will only get the temperature of your heat sink, and I assume those programs actually use the temperature of the processor. But, it would be really cool. N3rd toyz!

Set the thermal "I'm going to bitch really loudly at you if you get near this temp" monitor in BIOS to 60C and have some fun. I would guess you still have some room left with the Arctic Cooling heatsink. I know the model on my X2 seems to be pretty damn good for the most part. If the Intel version is anything like it, you should still have room left to overclock. It's worth a try to get a little bit more out of it. I would be surprised if you don't have at least another 200 mhz in each one of them. 3.2Ghz seems to be pretty easy to hit with the Q6600.

 
I'm shooting for 4-4.4ghz on mine, we will see, I have a Zalman 9700 and will get coretemp up and running. I think I'll load XP 32 bit onto the crap harddrive that I'm tossing in my Quad, and use it to figure out the OC, then just run some free os and vm's like tiger's guide shows. I'd really like to get a stable 5kppd out of this machine. It has a well known overclocking mobo for it the GA-P35-DS3L and I paired it with Crucial Ballistix DDR28500, so their should be room to OC the snot out of it. It really just depends if the Quad decides to overclock well it is a SLACR which are known to run cool and OC well, but time will tell I hope to bring this box up by the end of this month folding 24/7!





 
I need to get rid of my B3 and pick up a G0. Is there a cheap way on doing this kind of trade?

Well Sell the B3 for what you can, say $150 and head to microcenter and pick up a 199.99 G0 SLACR :)

$50 buck upgrade = not bad, right?

:rolleyes: I don't know what you are smoking, 4Ghz is nearly impossible on air, no question about 4.4Ghz either... Many of us are running in the range of 3.2-2.6Ghz which I probably will expect you to be able to hit, but not 4 and beyond on that cooler.

I'm running C2Q 6600 at 3.6Ghz and I'm barely breaking 50c load per core, it hovers right around at 46-48c per core. I probably will be able to push it upwards to 3.8 with a whole lot more volt...

Please read a little more in the overclocking forum before speaking such nonsense... Now that has been said, FOLD ON!

 
Wow... how about just a good luck... reading over on other forums 4.2ghz has been accomplished on the stock cooler with prime 95, So to me 4-4.4 with a solid aftermarket is not totally insane... Plus I like to shoot high and if I land at 3.6 to 3.8 well then that is what happens.

Sheesh rain on someone's parade why don'tcha :)
 
It's a different thing between running 4 GHz for a bench run and 4 GHz 24/7 under full load.

Mine is running at 3.6 GHz and I will push for 3.8 GHz when I'm done reinstalling the loop (still waiting for a damn friggin small key part to do it).

 
Also SMP FAH pushes a CPU to the max.
You can get it all Prime95 stable and it will still fail at folding.

The best pre-folding stess test I've found is the Orthos test "Stress CPU with Gromac core".
That at least runs the SSE loops needed to fold.

It's not raining on a parade when it's true. 4.0 - 4.4 isn't going to happen with a Zalman 9700. Start thinking about mid-3s like everyone has said. ;)



 
Well if that is the case I might have to consider water cooling it. 2x120mm, plus 1 block, plus pump, should run me about $100-150, and that should keep temps down, assuming I don't hit a FSB wall on the CPU itself.

When there is a will there is a way :)

Instead of blowing that money on water cooling for only a small chance of hitting 4 GHz folding stable, why not build another boxen with that money and be content with the mid to high 3s on the quad like the rest of us? :D

Also to note I would not build anything less than what I just plunked down which was about $440 so yes that is about 1/3 the way to another quad box

Aye, my quad core build was $440, thus $150 is about 1/3 the cost of a new box like the one I just built.

I've decided to OC my 6600 (pending stability) once again and I'm currently typing this running at... Prepare yourself...















4050Mhz (450*9) @ 1.66xx Volt​

 
What cooling solution are you using? And what is your Batch # etc. hell and temps!... Whew three edits later...

I need to prove myself that it can be done and I'm only drinking water at this time... Think of what I can do when I drink MOJO!!! Right now the idle temps are looking pretty cool hovering just a notch under 40c all cores... I haven't yet stressed it just yet, so far it seems to not be giving me any problems which I'm happy for and giving how it's going I probably will be trying for 500*9... But this will require massive mojo and a set of jupiter balls which I do not have yet. I will be dropping the Multi so I can attempt to find my max FSB and then work my way up with the Multi and hopefully I'll be able to dance a little bit with the newer and more powerful space heater in the NUDE!

Air - Need to find my stupid 6600 box - 37-39c idle all cores (haven't stressed it just yet)

EDIT: Am in the process of stressing it.
1) OCCT to ensure voltages and etc are at an acceptable range
2) OCCT passes then PRIMIN for 4 hours before upping the FSB
3) P95 passed then upping FSB by 5
4) Repeat...
5) When I hit a wall FSB or 60c I'll stop (focusing on lowering the volt to cool it a bit and repeat the 1-2 steps to ensure stability before running P95 for a full 12 hours.)
