Hey everyone, I have my q6600 and mobo arriving today, now the mobo is supposebly supports DDR1066. My question to you is: Worth buying 1066 ram if I already have 4gb of spankin' new DDR800?

I am building a PC for a friend, so if worst comes to worst i can sell him my ram for $50 over the price I paid. :D

I'd say no.

But, there will prob. be a tiny benchable difference.

agree, keep it, cpu mulit 8x, FSB 400, memory 1:1, = 3.2GHz and ram bang on spec. and running in synch. Will require top notch cpu cooling but lots of people have got to that.

Running a memory mulitplier with 4 GB turns an already twitchy 4x1GB into a nightmare sometimes, just depends on board and memory.

Keep in mind that quad can really pull some power through the cpu voltage regulator so if you use a big tower heatsink or watercooling a fan blowing on the components around the cpu socket will really help things in general.

Any CPU cooler recommendations? My cvase has 5 80mm fans, one on the side is blowing directly above the CPU.

water. Thats what I use on mine.
btw: I have a Quad 6600, 4GB of Corsair 800Hz XMS RAM, and a Swiftech Apogee GTX on the CPU. I also water cool the NB, just for fun.

I have found the combination to be very stable, but my board only allows the CPU to 3.015 GHz.:D

Enzotech Ultra X. Fromt he fan size of your case larger sinks probably wont fit and the intake will be good for the Ultra X.

Don't think I want to switch to water yet. I will post back with my mobo and ram models here once I get some time at work, maybe can give me some advice on how I can get the most out of it? :)

Tuniq tower or Thermalright Ulta or Ultra Extream seem to be the top air coolers. Big and not cheap but if you intend to OC over 3.0GHz with the quad they seem to be ones to go with according to peoples posts (I water cool so not a big hands on expert with air coolers ).

Check compatiblity with your motherboard. If you mention the manuf and model someone will come by and let you know if there would be a problem mounting it other than the standard pain of putting on a big cooler. It is something you would want to install before you put the board in the case just to avoid having to pull it out again later if you waited.

Here is a reveiw of a smaller version of the ultra but mainly I give the link because the results of all recent testing of coolers is included. You can find individual reviews of both the Tuniq and the Ulta at the same site, I tend to trust their results.
