PVR-150 Problem...

Hey I have searched a couple forums looking for the answer to this and havent found it.

Well I bought this card from someone else, so it may be a bad card. Let me tell you what happens.

I installed the card and hooked it up via Coaxial..and it worked except that the voices were off and I read somewhere that you will need to go composite to get that fixed. So I hooked up my composite cables from my satellite dish and I get a static screen with that static sound.

Drivers I tried:

Original Version 3.1D CD Drivers ---> Worked only Coaxial
2.0.28.23053 ----> None of them worked
2.0.35.23348 ----> Worked with only Coaxial again

I know the composite cables are good because I tested them by hooking them straight to the TV from the sat. box and it works.

I looked through the FAQ's..etc... and didnt see anything mentioning this so thats why I wonder if it means I have a broken card. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

what PVR application are you using? Your not trying to use the default application that comes with the card are you?

If so I'd recomend downloading the trial version of something like SageTV or Beyondtv and see if that makes a difference.

are you sure you set the input on the program that you were using to line in? You shouldn't have a problem with the audio being out of sync since the 150 uses a hardware based encoder.

I am using MCE...Would that make a difference? I have heard some bad reviews of it...but I didn't think it was that bad...

Explain more in detail what your setup is..

specifically..

are you using the PVR150 for audio input as well as video? or are you using the PVR150 for Video and your soundcard for audio input?

i just wanted to double check, if you use PVR for video and soundcard for audio you will have an audio delay since the card is encoding to mpg and then displaying the video instead of like other cards that just display the video without encoding..

you may want to try a program called Dscaler just view the input source.. it can bypass the hw encoder for you..

GBPVR! Free and very powerful. Works great under 2k/XP/MCE.

Are you getting video through the composite through your pvr app? You should be getting sound.. although the windows drivers for that thing are sometimes VERY quiet. There is no easy way to boost the sound, either. Try hooking up the cables to a stereo to just make sure they work (obviously, the sound will be way off the mark from video..)

PVR cards from Hauppauge buffers the video and sound (up to like 5 seconds) and then present it to your computer as a mpeg stream, totally in sync. But you have to have all the cables plugged into the card, not into an outside source.

Here it is more detailed...

I have the composite cables(audio/video) coming from my DISH satellite box in the the pvr card to the 3 composite slots for the audio/video. All I get is a static screen and static noise in media center.

I then try using the coaxial cable and hook it up from my DISH Satellite box into the PVR Coaxial one and I get video but with the audio sync is good for about 5 seconds then the screen kind of flickers and then the audio sync is off about 5 seconds...

I have hooked up the composite cables from my sat. box to the TV and it works perfect.

I have MCE 2005 and this is all done through the windows media center. I am going to try a trial version of sage or something later tonight when I get back from work.

BowHuntr..

is the mpg file that is saved/created out of sync if you play it later? (not being streamed)

its a little odd that it would be in sync for the first 5 seconds and then go out (i would imagine a HW encoder problem would put it out of sync from the beginnin)..

hopefully you can figure it out..

another thing maybe worth checking (which may explain the 5second sync issue)..

feel the card when its playing, is it getting super hot (overheating?) seems just searching there was a report of sync issues when the card became hot..

another issue from the Haup site (http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/faq/support_faq_mce.html)

Pause/skip sync issues within MCE with AMD X2 Dual Core processor PC?

AMD X2 Dual Core processors only. AMD has a Dual Core CPU Driver which can be found here.

The May 2005 version driver is known to correct this.

a quick google search seems someone else is having an issue with the satellite input (from Jan 2006 though)

http://forum.byopvr.com/dvr/index.php/topic,4999.0.html

i wonder if it is specifically MCE related, i'm sure there is a fix for it (in other words i doubt the card itself is bad, you may have just gotten unlucky with this issue)..

What video card do you run? what drivers? and what mpeg2 decoders are you using?

H-street,

Yes when I pause the TV and then play it after like 10 seconds it even makes the sync worse...

Nope not hot at all...

I don't know I will update this in about 20 minutes after I finish downloading the SageTV Trail and see if that helped...

X700...Catalyst 6.9....I thought the PVR already did that by itself?

MCE still requires an MPEG decoder, do you have like power dvd, or windvd or some dvd playback software installed?

use this tool here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...AC-0AB6-4990-943D-627E6ADE9FCB&displaylang=en

it'll let you know if whatever mpeg decoder your using is compatable with MCE. If not I'd recomend finding one that does. Might fix your issues.

If I didn't have any installed I wouldn't even get a picture under coaxial right?

Anyways, I installed SageTV and it works perfect! Everything does. Composite...Coaxial...Sounds...Perfect!

I have one more question though...

So is there not a way I can get SageTV to change a channel on my Dish Network STB so it can record a show? Or do I have to just change to that channel and have it set to a time to start recording like a old VHS Recorder?

well do you have the mce remote? with the usb ir reciever box? that has an ir emitter that plugs into the back of the usb box?

-Josh

Yeah I have the SteamZap Remote that SageTV is suppose to work with...Since it hooks up to the PC how does that control the Satellite?

Streamzap won't work. you'll need something with an IR emitter. Like the MCE remote http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_in...trols?osCsid=dc9c8cf28c274127d841384643a4f850

or the USB-IRT http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_in...trols?osCsid=dc9c8cf28c274127d841384643a4f850

Both have the ability to reciver IR commands and also send them out to devices like Set top box's.

- Josh

Ok..so these will control my Dish network STB and the SageTV guide at the same time? Is that what this does?

Thank you for all your help...I appreciate it.

Correct. What actually happens is that Sagetv controls everything you'll set a recording in the EPG in sagetv and then sage will send the propper IR commands thrugh the IR blaster which will change to the proper channel and start recording.

I haven't exactly researched much into IR remotes, but I haven't seen a better and more intuitive remote than the MCE remote. I'm sure there's some way to have it work with SageTV seemlessly.

SageTV has full support for the MCE remote built in.
