So I purchased a nice XFX 7970 Double Dissipation Black Edition awhile back in the FS section here, and it has mostly served me well. Until somewhat recently...

I noticed one of the fans on the cooling unit started to make a rubbing noise. Made sure nothing was caught in the blades, took the fan out, tried applying some lubricant... still getting issues. Though, with the air conditioning running due to the recent heat wave in the area, the noise is not as prevalent. Of course, we'll turn the air off soon. :p

I reached out to the person whom I purchased the card from, as he said that if an issue were to rise with the card that he would help with the RMA process since XFX's warranties are no longer transferable (grumble grumble). However, though the seller has been somewhat active on the site recently, they've logged on and not gotten back to me to assist with my potential request. Slightly frustrating.

So now I'm wondering if I should continue to badger the seller, or look to a better cooling apparatus for the card, since the Double D doesn't have the best or most quiet heatsink... or maybe just a replacement fan.

Opinions?

When did you buy the card?

Have you done all the leg work for the RMA up until the point that you need his info?

The card is registered to the seller through XFX AFAIK, so creating an RMA wouldn't be possible to my knowledge.

Card was purchased last June. From the PM:

I registered it, so it does have a lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, the warranty is stuck with me. If anything ever goes wrong. I will assist in using the warranty.

Note to the seller if you see this thread/post, I don't have an issue with the transaction we had, I'd just like to have the card acting properly.

Bought XFX HD7970 Double D. Going to be selling my reference 6950 soon. Thanks for looking!

It's been over a year, you should deal with it yourself and quit bothering the guy.

Because sending one PM and asking for assistance in something they stated they would assist with is bothering someone.

I recognize the length from the purchase to the current date, but if I was told warranty assistance was a certainty then I'm going to at least try to hold someone to their words.

Keep bugging him. All he has to do is create an RMA and you ship it out and do everything else. I've helped out on an RMA 2 yrs after a videocard purchase. It ain't that hard and is no skin off his back...

Unfortunately if he chooses not to help, not much you can do a year afterwards. Not sure if you can edit his heatware...maybe that will get his attention ahah.:D

OP, I am not sure if it will fit, but I have the heatsink from my MSI TF3 that I am not using (WC'ing and all)..If you can confirm somewhere they use the same heatsink mounts you can have it for the small shipping amount if it would help. Shoot me a PM and let me know.

Hello, DOOMDOOMDOOM, i have sent you a PM regarding RMA and warranty service options for this situation. We should be able to get this taken care of for you, no problem.

Thank you

Good to see XFX stepping up...stuff like that goes a long way with me in the PR department.

as for bashing I got an XFX in my comp now never had an issue. cant say the same for some other "more respected" companies who refused to honor rmas

Good job XFX. Glad to see companies like this still around. Hopefully some of the others will take notes on this one.

My next card once again will be a XFX, because of stuff like this.

You know, I was going to be upgrading my video card within the next week or two, XFX, you just won a customer!

An update on this:

I sent in the card at the beginning of last week, and the replacement is scheduled to arrive by next Tuesday. Upgrading me to an "official" 1GHz edition, too!

Congratulations on the upgrade. Enjoy the new gpu. Thanks XFX, I didn't get nothing but it is nice to see them do people right. So I will say it also. Have to give it up to XFX.

Wow, very impressive on XFX's part. I've used their products before and have never had a problem but just from this my next card will be an XFX.

XFX once again shows true A+ customer service!!!!

I had to do one RMA years ago (ti4200) LOL, and the transaction was perfect back then! For the most part I have stuck with their video cards since then.

XFX you will always have a customer with me. :D
