My old epox 8rda+ died today (boo), and I've got to replace it. The CPU is still good(barton 2800+), and the RAM and video card test fine in another system, as does the PSU, so the board seems dead.

Any suggestions? I'm not opposed to buying a new board+CPU, but I'd rather not upgrade the video/RAM at this time, just no reason. Video is an ATI FireGL X1 (AGP) and 4 sticks of 512M PC3200 DDR

Since you were already using the nForce2 chipset, I'd stick with it.

I realize that some folks don't approve of my choice because Gigabyte isn't exactly an overclocker's dream, but the board is a solid, stable one, and you should be able to stick it in there, and be up and running without having to reinstall the OS.

gigabyte was good back in the nf2 days.

if you really want a good oc'ing board, abit nf7-s 2.0 :D
(make sure it's not -s2)

Nah, ignore everyone, get a Venice and a 9NDA3+ and overclock the hell out of it, you loose a bit of an upgrade path as far as gpus go, but youd be very happy with it.

Or you could go with a 8RDA6+, they are nice boards, all the overclocking goodness of the 8RDA, but without the random breaking problem ;)

My guess is completly at random, just like mine did. On closer inspection a cap had gone bad, which is a known issue with that board.

Abit does a good job with the NF2 based boards. AN7 or NF7-S v. 2 if you can find one.

It was a power surge that got mine, house was hit pretty hard, fried the powerstrip and mobo.

All the other components seem ok.

I wound up buying a gigabyte 7n400 board, very happy with it.
