I just got word from my boss that we've been approved to replace two of the computer labs for the college. Off to retirement are:

56 x Celeron 1.7 Ghz, 512MB RAM, etc.

And incoming are:
56 x C2D 2.0 Ghz, 1GB of RAM, etc.

We should be replacing the 'old' computers around the end of April/beginning of May. I'm thrilled. Not only will my ppd (hopefully) increase a reasonable amount, it also means that the users will enjoy using some faster computers. For the Horde!

That is great news!

56 new Core 2 Duos! Wow!

congrats to you and us. another kick to the roo's behinds. whats happening with the old systems? anyone with alot of space and free power should run those.

Where are the old ones going?

You should sell them to the [H]orde on the cheap ;)

I have a feeling that they'll be cycled around. Some will go to the 'new' lab that we're opening in the fall - just a bunch of email/messaging type stations so that students are less likely to tie up computers that are being used for academic purposes. I don't know where the rest will go - some to faculty, and perhaps others for sale to staff that want them. I'm hoping that I can donate a bunch of them to local schools, like what I did when we decomissioned another lab last summer, but I won't know if that's in the cards for a while yet.

as long as they have fah on them we won't have to tar and feather you. :D I wish my school could afford a lab of c2d's that big. we have some crappy p4's that are a few years old atleast.
