PSU ripple

In the review of the TC 860, how bad was the dc output ripple measurement? Was it better than most psu's in comparison?

also, on a scale of 0-10 (explains well for a psu noob like me lol) how would the dc output ripple rate?

Should I notice a difference between that and ripple as low as the 1kw-sr?

I have a tc860 and it's running fine, but i was just wondering.

Finally, why have most silencers people have been reviewing lately on newegg been defective? They started out getting great reviews, but now many recent reviews say they got a unit that was doa. Also, the prices on them have dropped quite a bit. Are they doing something different with the latest models they've been shipping?

I'm not trolling. I'd really like some answers. I'm sure at least the editor of the review could answer my questions.

Compared to the BFG ES-800, the TC 860 was not that good, at least on the +12V rail. The ripple on the +12V rail for the ES800 sat around ~15mV during the torture testing whereas the TC 860 sat around ~30mV.

As for the newegg reviews, people tend to post reviews more when they start having problems. Those that do not have problems tend to not post reviews. Hence why one tends to see a large number of bad reveiws on newegg.

As for the price drops, that's just normal supply and demand. Prices do drop over time for parts. Look at the BFG ES-800. It was launched at $200 early this year but now has dropped to $110.

You posted this this morning, been kind of a busy day around here and I don't get to every thread as soon as it is posted.

The unit peaked at 40mV for the 5v rail, 30mV for the 3.3v rail, and 50mV for the 12v rail. So how does it stack up? Well it is beaten by some units and it beats some units.

On a scale of 1-10?

Well if 1 is the spec limit of 120mV for the 12v and 50mV for the 5v/3.3v with 10 being 0mV. The 12v would be a 4.16, the 5v would be a 2 and the 3.3v would be a 6.

I would get a silencer 610, but it seems that later models have been doa more common than when they first came out. i got a red silencer 750 a year and a month ago, and it was perfect. unfortunately, i thought it was defective the summer just past so that's when i bought my tc 860, but later found out that it wasn't defective (shouldn't have suspected it since the vid card's memory was factory oc'd), so since i already had the tc 860 up and running, i sold the silencer 750. i don't think it's my imagination, that thing seriously seemed better built and delivered cleaner power than the turbo cool i have now. but, many of the ones made this year have been reported doa or worse, i heard about one going up in smoke, so i don't know if i should buy a silencer 610, which is similar, but just 610 w instead of 750W. Same amount of ripple as the silencer 750, right? or no?

If i do buy it, how much should i sell and ship insured via usps my turbo cool 860 for? is it likely I'd make a profit after the cost of the silencer 610 which is $99 shipped? The problem is, is that i'm worried i'm going to get a doa if i get a silencer 610. But if i can get a good profit, then i'll probably go thru. However, I first wanted some advice from a few people here before i go any further.

I did a lot of searching and I can’t find profit anywhere in the specs or reviews.

I do recall an adage from my youth, “Buy low, Sell high”. It always worked for me, well, except the past few months anyway.;)

I have one last question whose answer will conclude this thread.

I think i'm just going to keep my tc 860w, since pc power seems to downsizing, like everyone is now, due to modern liberalism (my bias against anything not purely Lockean is going to show thru every once in a while, so try to pardon me when I go OffT about things like that.)

That is, assuming that the higher than avg ripple on 12v ripple won't cause any noticeable dc output "noise" that the hardcore user wouldn't notice on a unit that has no ripple, and also compared to a unit that has ~1/2 the ripple of the tc 860.

So, cutting the backstory bullshit, the question is:

how much difference in undesired dc output "noise" would the hardcore user notice between no ripple (like the 1kw-sr) and less ripple (like the bfg unit) compared to my tc 860?

YOU won't "notice" ripple. And as long as the ripple is in spec, you're not going to hurt any of your components. When ripple is too high, there's added stress on the components the PSU is powering to filter that power. That's when, in time, other components fail due to poor power.

Thanks for the reply=]

I'm sorry that you hate me.

Did someone say I hated you?

I capitalized the word YOU because I wanted to make sure I addressed your specific question. Less ripple is better, but you asked if YOU would notice the difference. The answer is "no".

I had thought by capitalizing "YOU" you meant that only myself was incapable of noticing a difference that others could.

But no offense taken, and I intended no offense towards you=]

No worries=]

It's ok for people to think I'm retarded though, b/c nearly all of ideas are very unpopular, (politics, criminals and criminal justice, as well as pc hardware and software) despite the fact that they'd be best for every individual, rather than the democratic system we have today where the tyrannical majority rules and gives rights only to specific groups. I actually can't believe that a majority of Congress, during my life, might not bail out the american auto industry. That'll be like the only time in my life that i'll agree with a majority on.

This isn't a political forum, and we're not here to talk politics. Keep your opinions to yourself.

We do however have such a forum here where you are free to express yourself.
