So i've been gettin some criticisms for the PSU and am thinkin of upgrading. Any PSUs made for SFF comps? Any to stay away from due to length?

X-Connect power supplies are way too big, stay away from them, if you want to fit a normal sized optical drive then you NEED right angle molex connectors.. otherwise i'd suggest getting a Lite-On optical drive with an Enermax Liberty 400w power supply. It has 20a on both 12v rails so it should be plenty for whatever you throw in a ssf, plus it's a little shorter than normal power supplies.

what PSU are you running with all the stuff in your sig? weird how the stock PSU is a 420w and yet a enermax liberty 400w would cut it...i don't get it. does the x-qpack's PSU suck that bad?
 
Yes... yes the X-qpack power supply has been known to be pretty damn shitty =P The reason is that high quality companies rate thier power supplies when running at 50c, while lower end companies will rate the max output at like 25c, and the hotter it is, the less output there is as well, so many power supplies are over rated. The aspire stock one is one of those over rated ones. I'm actually running on the stock right now, but I've noticed it dropping down to 11.4v on load and that really worries me, so I'm grabbing a liberty soon. It may be okay if you're not ocing, but it's really a crap shoot... some aspire ones like mine turn out to be atleast okay, while some others burn up and take systems with them. Overall, all I can suggest is definately replace it =P That dinky 80mm fan ain't pushing much air either, so switching power supplies will also help air circulation...
 
the neopower480 fits fine. my one and only gripe about it is that the modular connectors sit a tad too high. so that makes the connectors sit behind both the top and bottom drive bays. and if youre weary about going with a short lite-on drive, the back of the drive will be making contact with the modular connetors. Rule of thumb for the neopower480 is to use it with a drive thats less than 179-180mm. even that will be a really tight fit but itll be flush with the case. im considering swapping out mine for a liberty 400
 
the stock psu is unstable, the rails fluctuate a lot, which is bad for the components that it's powering. this'll cause anything from system instability to random restarts / shut downs to destroying pieces of your system.

i'd vote for the enermax liberty 400w, it should be strong enough for anything that you can fit into a sff (possibly not if you throw in like 3 raptors or something like that), and its shorter than the standard length psu's so i think you'll be able to fit in standard size optical drives, not just lite-ons.
 
alright, i realized that this PSU isn't worth it. i neglected to see the other "psu recommendation" thread for the x-qpack. i guess this thread can be closed and all other complaints be directed over there.
