Psu for single 8800gt system help

Well I discarded the idea of sli 9600gt's since I am short on cash and it would require a new mobo,case and big PSu.
I am gonna get a 8800gt so I need a PSU.I don't know what I should get tho here is my system specs.

gateway gt5476e pc.Pc is completely stock.It only has a 300 watt psu in it and I know it isn't enough.
I don't have a clue on the amp for the 12volt rail should be for an 8800gt or how many watts I need. so please help out would like to keep the purchase of Psu at or around $40-60 It would be great if I could get the PSU at BB since that is where I am getting the video card from
 
If the PSU has a single 12V rail, it should provide at least 22A. I've sucessfully ran my system with an old 430W PSU that only provided a single 12V, 20A rail.

If it has two 12V rails, things become a little more complicated, but 17A or so should definitely be safe and make sure to balance the load on the two rails.

I've since bought the Corsair 450VX and I highly recommend it or its bigger brother if you can afford it. Quiet, stylish, reliable and it's a single-rail design so you don't have to juggle with those 12V connectors to prevent overloading the PSU.
 
What is the rest of your system like? How many hard drives etc?

Anyway, Best Buy doesn't have any good PSUs for under $60 (at least according to their website) So you will have to buy the PSU online.

If you haven't used Google check out yet, use it to buy the Corsair 450VX at buy.com to get $10 off:

If your rebate is followed through, it's now $50 AR and AGCO! Good deal IMO.
 
The Corsair 450VX would be a perfect match for you.

There are also some decent mid end products from FSP/Sparkle and Antec that would be right up your alley.
 
I have an Antec Truepower Trio 550 SLI I'm needing to get rid of because I want a modular.
 
I run the Corsair HX520w. Very stable and quiet. It also has the benefit of being modular, but many of the models mentioned here would make a fine choice.
