I am kind of surprised my first post here would be about PSUs. Always thought I new what I needed until I read the anandtech article about PSU myths.
http://www.anandtech.com/casecoolingpsus/showdoc.aspx?i=3413
and coupling with the recent [H] article "Video Card Value Guide" I decided to take the plunge into multi-gpus and go with dual 4850 video cards. Now I currently have an Enermax NoiseTaker II 495 watt PSU running a rig with
C2D e6550
4GB DDR2 800
Nvidia 9600 gt
150gb raptor
500gb samsung
couple dvd rom drives
2 silverstone 120mm fans
gigabyte p35-ds3l mobo
and haven't had issue one with overdraw on the PSU. However, going to dual GPUs I wonder what is the minimum PSU I can get away with. Price isn't really an issue within reason (i.e. no $250 dollar 500watt PSUs please).

Living here in Las Vegas anyone can tell you power bills are a real drag and having minimal draw with my computer is a big factor in the low wattage category. Is the current PSU being used enough to run a crossfire setup with 4850s or is the little bugger not strong enough to power the setup?

Thanks and /wave to all the [H]Forum peepz.:D

A good quality 450W PSU with at least 32A on the +12V rail is theoretically enough for a HD4850 CF. Look at this:
http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTUzMSw5LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

The system was:
QX9770, 2GB Corsair, RAM, the video card(s), 3 WD Raptor Hard Drives, a DVD/CDRom, a floppy drive, and a Koolance Exos water cooling system.

And that only took up 365W of power with HD4850CF added in. Considering that you only have two drives, no water cooling setup or highly clocked quad-core CPU, you'll be set with that PSU.

But how long have you had that Noisetaker II?
