PSU for fileserver

I'm finishing up my fileserver/workstation and the only thing I'm worried about is my PSU, I have an antec NeoPower 500w.

The build is as follows:
Q6600 (will be overclocked so lets say a vCore of 1.45v)
Asus P5E WS
2x1GB DDR2
8x 750GB 5400RPM
1x 500GB 7200RPM
8800GTS 512
DVDRW
PCIe Raid Card (PERC)

What I'm worried about is the HDDs, I used neweggs calculator and it said I needed an 800+w PSU, then I used Outervision's Extreme calculator and it says 519w, so I'm not sure which side to err on. What do you guys think?

an HX620 should power that no problem. If you are planning a lot of upgrades and you do want to add more drives (a lot more), then go with the larger PSU.
 
Nope that would pretty much be it, I might add 1 more drive to mate with the 500gb but that would be the limit.
 
If using an HX620, can you get additional modular sata power cables? The OP is looking at 11 SATA drives (assuming he went with the additional 500) and that the DVDRW is SATA as well.

The HX620 only comes with 8 SATA connectors.

 
Get an Enermax Liberty 500w or an Enermax Infiniti. They both have tons of SATA connectors. I think mine has like 12.

Don't get the 620w Liberty though - they asplode :O

Well there are adapters that can convert the molex connector to SATA power connector. Most retail drives come with those.

But you can always just hit up Corsair support and ask them for additional modular SATA cables.
 
I've seen all models of the liberty asplode, not just the 620. I just don't suggest going with it at all.
 
I'm sticking with the Antec for now, I still haven't been able to snag a PERC so the extra 750s are sitting on the sideline, I just wanted to know if I should be looking at 800w PSUs because the newegg calculator did have me a bit worried. It seems that the 500w number is more accurate so I feel fine with what I have, for now.

I generally work on a figure of around 10W a HD (Most HDs are a little less than this but it's a good ballpark.) Does your card do staged spinup? The main draw if not will be on power on. My server has 6 HDs in it, and it draws around 220-230w on powerup, but never really goes much above 150 in normal operation.

So a quick 'back of fag packet' calculation gives around 90w for the HDs, I think those GFX cards draw around 100-110W at full load, which means you're looking around 200W for the GFX/HD, leaving 300W left for the rest, which sounds like more than enough. (OK, you do want a little breathing room, as runing a PSU at full spec all the time is probably a bad idea, but you should be fine.)
