Currently my file server is using some leftover bits from my other builds and the PSU is a bit lacking. It only has 2 SATA connectors and I don't want to use any 4-pin to SATA adapters.

Are there any cheap psu with 6+ SATA connectors? I know that Corsair 400CX fits this requirement, but is there anything else you guys have to recommend?

It would help if you told use what the specs of that system was.

But taking a chance, the 400CX is a good choice for a PSU.

Cheap psu and 6+ sata connectors wont happen, you will have to use 4pin to sata adapters. There is no difference in how the drives run either.

And for load, Ive ran 12 hdd's on a 430w no issues.

need to knwo more.

but yes, for example, one of my file servers runs 4 x 250gb drives and 4 x 160gb each in a raid 5 array. a tyan intel p3 board, 512mb ram its powered fine with a 500W PS. it is a fortron series though and its been great

Thanks guys, I guess i'll stick to using adapters and saving a few pennies.
The rig won't be seen much anyway :)
