Ok heres the deal, I use a custom case which only uses a 1u server psu. its 460w and rated to 24a I am currently running a 8800gt which needs 24a says evga and i am running a e6600 now. I want to upgrade my cpu and or possibly my video card. i would most likely go to a q6600 and am still undecided on the video card. i wanna see if you guys think its possible i know that im pushing it but i figure its a server psu and made to be ran hard. any ideas?

Who is the manufacturer of that 1U PSU? Even server class power supply makers have their fair share of poor quality PSU makers.

The word server is a much over used and misunderstood term IMHO.

In a 1u case heat becomes a pretty big factor so it would be good to know how your PSU is actually rated. Is that 24 AMPS on the 12v rail and what temp was given as the max to run continuous, as in is it rated at 50c or 40c or 25c. Then it would help to know the ambient surrounding temp as well.

How about make model of the PSU as well?

Do you have to use a 1U PSU?

I ask because Dynapower is very very low-end PSU maker as far as I can tell. It my not be capable of actually providing 24A on the +12V rail.

If that is the PSU you are currently using I’d say you have been on the edge from day one.

I’d replace that for something bigger from a much better company. As Danny said, and I was guessing, with the heat load etc you need a new PSU for what you have let alone an upgrade.:)
