Just purchased Skyrim SE last night. Reason being, there are a lot of new updated mods that I wanted to try out.

Problem: IT DOESN'T SUPPORT G-Sync! I tried every .ini setting & control panel setting there was, nothing worked. Locked at 60fps. If you happen to get it unlocked, the screen tearing is pretty bad.

Given that the Havok physics are tied to the frames I can see why Bethesda did this but the implementation is horrid.

Stay away, just use the old skyrim & add the 3 DLC's. Oh, and another thing, Bethesda took it upon themselves to hide the Hearthfire DLC very deeply into Steam, I guess they want people to buy the new one instead of just paying $5 dollars to make your game "Legendary". Not cool.


Also, if anyone has a surefire fix for this I'd be happy to know it.
 
It's a pretty well known issue, and like you said it is tied to the physics. Above 60fps and all kinds of random crap breaks, ranging from items in rooms flying around to quests breaking.

This was an issue in Oldrim as well.

This used be the fix for Skyrim SE.

[HAVOK]
fMaxTime=0.0333 is for 30fps, may help performance on slow computers
fMaxTime=0.0166 is for 60fps
fMaxTime=0.0133 is for 75fps
fMaxTime=0.0111 is for 90fps
fMaxTime=0.0083 is for 120fps
fMaxTime=0.0069 is for 144fps
fMaxTime=0.0042 is for 240fps+
and
[Display]
iVSyncPresentInterval=0


or look up 120 FPS fix for Skyrim Second Edition. The physics is tied to 60FPS and you need to adjust it by adding [HAVOK] to My Documents>My games>Skyrim Second Edition Skjyrim.ini and the corresponding fMaxTime for your monitor, fMaxTime=0.0083 for 144Hz.

Well, before NVIDIA disabled G-SYNC for Skyrim SE in the driver it did technically worked, but because of the physics issue it wasn't playable. When I first played it the horse carriage in the opening cutscene did its best Star Fox impression.

This allows you to play at a higher framerate, but as said above NVIDIA unfortunately disabled G-SYNC in the drivers for games that need to be played at a fixed refresh rate including Skyrim SE. So even though this will do that you will get tearing.

By the way, max time is 0.0102 for 98 FPS, in case anyone is using a PG27UQ or X27 at 98 Hz like I am.

Thanks, yeah I tried those settings in the .ini, they didn't work. I went ahead and got a refund on it through Steam. I guess I'll stick with Oldrim. : /
 
Can you use MSI afterburner( I think that has that feature) or something to set a frame limit?

Awesome, I personally wouldn't bother playing Skyrim above 60fps, because of the physics issues. Last time I played, I just let it sit at 60fps.

Oldrim can be as good as SE, it just takes a little extra tweaking.

This thread is giving me the itch to reinstall.

Try the free mod on steam for Skyrim. Called Enderal. Damn good game/mod if you ask me! It's a whole new experience and has nothing to do with the skyrim story line.

You don't even need to install skyrim either, just own the game on steam

 
Gsync can and does work in Skyrim SE. Gsync has nothing to do with the problems you guys are discussing though, it's the framerate being over 60fps. But as termite posted, you can use that ini tweak to make Havok run at the correct rate whatever your FPS is. I play it this way all the time and it's basically perfect (you may occasionally see a physics glitch here and there, but generally it's fine.)
 
Anyone know a good resource with up to date list of best mods/must haves for Skyrim? Was burned out after oblivion, disappointed by gfx (downgrade from modded oblivion) and never really got as far into it.

I haven't looked for a best/must have list for a long time. I always used NexusMods.com for mods, and either thier Nexis Mod Manager or use Mod Manager 2.

Off the top of my head,

Unofficial Skyrim Patch. (Which ever version, you need, SE, Old Legendary etc). This is a must have patch, if you add nothing else add this patch. It fix hundreds of bugs, quests, adds in some minor junk Bethesda just didn't bother fixing.

SkyUI <- not really supported in SE though, but it still works. Fixes/updates the base UI, adds sorting, all kinds of usefullness.

Skyrim Floral Overhaul

Climates of Tamriel or Vivid Weather

Static Mesh Improvement Mod.

Realistic Water

Frost Fall (Not for everyone, adds some survival aspects, like freezing to death, also adds camps and some other cools stuff.

The modding community is going strong though, so there may be better new ones, or compilations that are better.

Some people still use the original Skyrim (Oldrim) because some mods were never updated to SE, and/or it is "more stable" because it has not been patched since like 2016. Bethesda was making random patches to SE which was constantly breaking mods, in favor of the official "Creation Club". Not sure if they still do.

It's a shame because SE is overall a more stable version of Skyrim.

Someone will chime in with a huge list shortly. There was also a pretty healthy Skyrim Mod thread going for a few years, which had a pretty laundry list.

Thanks so much, been feeling it call me for a while and want to scratch that itch. Being in EU and seeing the same pine trees covered in snow is also a bit of a weird one, don't get them where I'm from normally and it reminds me of the time I spent in Skyrim! Cheers

No problem! I still love TESV Skyrim, it has its issues, but overall its pretty awesome.

Fair warning, modding Skyrim is a rabbit hole of epic proportions. So good luck.

It's here on the Nexusmods site. Or if you don't want to mess with a mod manager or whatever, it was available in the Steam Workshop.

Yes, and be careful searching by name only, as Nexus had Oldrim and SE separated. You can find many of the mods in both (Frostfall, SMIM etc) , but most are not compatible for both. It is best to go to the games page and search from there.
