Hi guys, didnt know if this is the right are to post..

I bought a bunch of Blu-Rays to play on my PS3, and now not having realized it, my monitor can only display 1080p, not 1080i, so now I can't see the menus for some of them, or the extras, and some are entirely unplayable.

I am wondering if the PS3 has a force upscale option to make 1080i to 1080p so I can watch these blu-rays, or am I totally frigged?

thanks

Occasionally I run into an extra-feature that is in 1080i (most are in 480p), but I think every disk I've ever played has been 1080p for the main feature.

The PS3 (and any blu-ray player) will not output blu-ray at anything higher than 720p without a digital signal, so you will need an HDMI cable.

doesn't the ps3 come with a YCbCr digital component cable?
Isnt that capable of 1080p?

YCbCr (AKA component) is analog, but it does support 1080p. Due to copy-protection concerns the bluray standard specifically prohibits playback above 720p to digitally protected connections. The only way to get 1080p out of ANY bluray player is through a digital cable, which means HMDI, DVI, or Display Port.

And that is assuming your display supports HDCP...

did the movie studios finally start using HDCP? i thought at first they wernt going to use it atleast not right away because there were a bunch of hdmi displays that didnt have hdcp.

although im probly completely mistaken on that. and it was a over a year ago or so that i heard that so....

Hi wow lots of responses really fast! I have an HDMI cable, but there is a setting I just found under movies that says something like "convert 1080i to 1080p" and it was set to automatic, but I changed it to "video". So now it works, thanks!
