I learn something everyday. I did not know that Twitter was a hotbed for some sweet sweet prostitutes. However, it seems that sweet sweet prostitutes are no longer sweet on Twitter. Now the prostitutes that know, Switter. That said, I just did a search for "#prostitutes" on Twitter, and it seems that there are still a couple hanging around reaping the rewards of a thinning workforce representation on the bird site.

But since April, sex workers have almost completely vanished from Twitter, instead flocking to the Austrian domain Switter.at. Why? Because that was the month the U.S. Congress passed a bill known as FOSTA/SESTA (short for Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act and Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act, respectively) which is aimed at curbing underage sex trafficking and holds internet service providers liable for what users might create on their platforms.

Whats that app that lets you track and rate food trucks.........."Dirty, Mean, Mighty Unclean.....I'll need antibiotics for sure" - B. Scott.

You know if you "read between the lines" and whatnot.

Also I'm done second-posting for the day, I need a life....

that bill has put a dent in the world's oldest profession...Craig's List got rid of those ads, Backpage etc...pretty soon we might see a return of street-walkers on 42nd street

Might this mean sales of red lights will skyrocket? :p

To paraphrase the Jurassic Park movies, "prostitution, uh, finds a way."
Or to put it in classic economic terms: demand creates supply.

The worst thing is that it hasnt' diminished either the supply or demand, but rather just forces everyone to less safe methods/alternatives. FOSTA/SESTA was a catastrophe when it comes to Internet freedom and free speech, as is anything that makes hosts directly culpable for things their users might post/do . Like I said it not only puts more sex workers into harms' way, eliminating safe places to advertise "escort" services means less visibility for actual shifty things like sex trafficking to get noticed and called out!

Fun fact though - Switter.at is an instance of superior Twitter alternative Mastodon (https://joinmastodon.org/) , which a open(source), privacy respecting, GNUSocial compatible, and federated microblogging platform! Good on them! Besides Switter, there are many other Mastodon instances out there and you can create an account on any of them and interact with anyone on any other Mastodon or GNUSocial powered server (its kind of like XMPP). For those interested in any sort of social networks I highly suggest dumping centralized proprietary sites like Twitter and Facebook and moving instead to Mastodon, Diaspora* , Friendica and perhaps others.

I really hope they legalize or decriminalize prostitution here one day.

these politicians use plenty of hookers, yet they won't help these hookers out.

In the mean time, there are still a few big advertising sites still standing.... like Eros and Slixa
