Are the somewhat model specific? I just bought an older ML350 (first gen) and I was wondering if it the newest SmartStart 7.10 CDs will work with it, or if I need something older. I haven't used the SmartStarts since the 3.x versions.

You know, this is the type of question we would be asking you......

Yeah, I realized that while typing it. I can't seem to find a clear answer. I've found support matricies that say yes, but with an add-on, but nothing real clear. My server should be here tomorrow, so I'll just have to try the 7.10s I have.

The "cut-off" is Smart Start 5.5
If your server supports RBSU (Rom Based Setup Utility) then you use Smart Start 6.0 or above. If the server is not RBSU aware (older Proliant) then you need Smart Start 5.5. For a first Generation ML350 you will probably need 5.5? Smart Start 5.5 also requires the Server Profile Floppy disk.

I agree that the HP website is not clear as to what is supported by what...
I guess you will have to actually boot off your version to know for sure? :)
