Project Raven - Case Labs M8

Yeah that should get the ball moving, consumer mediation FTW, and subbing this project as it looks awesome.

Ordered my Sandy Bridge 2600K and Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD7 to replace all the AMD junk. Hopefully I will have it by tomorrow and then I can take some snap shots and install it so I can route my tubing and start my leak tests!

Today was a good day, as I have won both my small claim suits against Fedex and Dell as they did not show up to defend themselves in my case against them. I was awarded a total of $1000, $500 from Dell and $500 from Fedex. :D :D :D :D :D

Well i wouldn't go so far as to say junk...

That's good, Im glad to hear that you did.

Time for some surgery! Out comes the 990FXA-UD7 and in goes the Z68X-UD7 :) I'll post pictures once I get everything mounted inside of the case. Then it's time to start routing all my tubing so I can run my leak test!

After a successful leak test and a 10 hour Prime95 burn in to test my 5 GHz stability here it all is.

It's still messy as I'm waiting for new rounded SATA cables and looking for some new tubing as I'm having a little problem with the Tygon tubing I purchased. If you look closely where I circled in yellow the tubing is flattening when I turn on my pumps, my flow is still decent at 147 L/h but it is annoying aesthetically.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this or if there is any other alternative for tubing? I noticed that tygon and primoflex tubing are both very thin walled which is most likely the cause.

boottest.jpg

That is one gigantic case! If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take you roughly to do all the sleeving?

the 'wraps' they have for keeping shape where tubing bends may also helpo it keep shape in that situation

Well after some testing I figured out that the issue with the tubing flattening was due to the walls of the tubing being too thin. Also, the pump was in a very poor spot being above the reservoir which ultimately gave me bleeding issues.

Ultimately I had to re-position the pumps and re-route tubing. I had to remove the external hard drive cage and move the 3TB Seagate Barracuda into the Hotswap bay and remove my 250GB WD back into the external case it came in.

I am planning on replacing all of the tygon tubing with A-60 neoprene tubing. I just have to wait for my delivery from Frozen CPU.

is the volts at 5ghz correct? 1.044? if it is that is really impressive.

Naw, CPU-Z reports the voltage incorrectly. It's running at 1.475 on the Vcore and 1.840 CPU PLL.

Well here she is, 95% completed. I am just waiting on my MNPC Tech "Diamond Knurl" case feet, larger heatsink for my Aquaero 5 XT and a replacement Koolance FM-17 flow meter and I my build will officially be done.

I got my A-60 Neoprene tubing from Frozen CPU and replaced all of my clear Tygon tubing.

Just some quick numbers,

CPU Flow - 121.8 L/H

CPU loop temperature - 28.7 C idle / 36.2 C full load @ 5 GHz - VCore 1.485
GPU loop temperature - 27.2 C idle / 39.8 C full load

Here is one quick picture I took last night while the lights were off.

great build.

sucks about your monitor, tho it makes good 'television' if there's a bit of 'drama' during a build.

it's was pretty weak that it had to be taken to 'small claims' court to get resolved. large companies love putting a hold on this stuff, hoping the consumer just gives up and goes away. piss poor practices should be chased down at every occurrence. course easy to say on $1000+ products .when the price drops, becomes harder to justify spending the time to chase up.

would of loved to get a caselabs unit myself except it would have cost as much as the unit it's self, to ship here (australia). so whenever i see a buildlog on one of these cases, always a little jealous.

Is that your pump fitted to the radiator? What type of bracket is holding it there?

Its the Koolance mounting bracket that came with the pump top kit. I modified it slightly but cutting out a section of the plate that is flush against the radiator so my airflow does not get impeeded too much and I drilled new holes so I could mount the DDC dressed with the Koolance DDC heatsink kit.

The final picture flood should be coming along very soon.

I am just taking the time to zip-tie down all the loose cables/wires into bunches and finishing up some last minute sleeving.

I purchased and mounted a NZXT IU01 USB Expansion module as the GA-Z68X-UD7 motherboard only had (2) internal USB 2.0 headers and I required a total of 5 since the Aquaero 5 XT and the (2) Poweradjust 2 Ultras used them as well. I didn't do any fancy things to hide the module but I did place it out of sight.

I also realized that I do have to order 3 more rounded SATA cables (longer then 10") as I don't want to use flat cables as well as my MNPC Tech case feet.

Here are some "crappy" hold over pictures :)

Oh I see. Thanks.

Btw your build looks awesome. I'm having trouble with mine with all the cable management. I guess that's half the fun with planning a new build

Very slick and great use of colours :)

Sucks about Dell. Keep us posted about that, only reinforces the negative feeling when a big company takes your money but doesn't want responsibility for when things go wrong. I'm sure it's because people take advantage of the warranty, which means the company doesn't trust any of its customers anymore.

Some new toys from Black Friday sales...

Decided the HT Omega Striker 7.1 would be a good alternative to the SB X-Fi Titanium HD since it would not fit into my setup. It definitely does not dissapoint and the price was right.

The Corsair SP2500 2.1 Gaming speakers are f'n amazing! That is all.

Good God ... that is a beast of a case.
And that is one of their "small" ones ?!?!?

With 1 normal exhaust and 9 radiator pull exhaust compared to just 6 intake fans (all the fans I could count on your setup), do you have significant level of negative air pressure? Also, does the sheer number of fans make a decent amount of noise?

Believe it or not there is a total of 16 fans in this case. The motherboard compartment there are 7, 6 of which are intakes with 1 exhaust. It actually gives me positive pressure which helps significantly with keeping the inside of the compartment dust free.

It actually isn't very noisy considering that the Aquaero ramps down the speed of the fans to 900 RPM when the CPU load is low/idling (thank god for PWM)

On a side note.

Here is a little addition to my rig, a Razer Black Widow Ultimate mechanical keyboard. My MLG Astrogaming A40 Wireless 5.8 GHz headset should arrive tomorrow. I'm still torn on if I should replace my Logitech G700 with a Cyborg RAT 9 mouse.

razerblackwidowultimatec.jpg

Keep tuned in though, I will be trading in my 6990/6970 Tri-Fire setup soon for Dual 7970's once Swiftech releases their blocks and Dual bridge links.

My Astrogaming A40 MLG Wireless 5.8 GHz headset finally arrived, god I hate FedEx.

These will be replacing my Logitech G930s.

I finally have gotten around to upgrading since I wanted to see what Nvidia had up their sleeve before buying the Radeon 79XX series, I'm glad that I waited.

I just have to wait for EK to release some nice blocks for the cards and I will be in business, I'm not quite sure if I want to use them on air while I wait. These are the Superclocked editions, but alas not the 4GB models as I was impatient! I absolutely love the fact that the PCB is tiny, roughly about the size of the 6600 GT. I may end up getting another one maybe in a month for some triple SLI action.

Here is also what I did with some of my tax return

mx18closed.jpg

mx18open.jpg

18.4" 1920x1080 res LCD
Intel Core i7 2960XM
32GB DDR3
Dual Radeon 6990 2GB Crossfire
500GB Seagate Hybrid SSD
500GB Seagate Momentus XT
Killer NIC 1102

It's 12 lbs. which kills too carry and the 330 watt power brick is huge, damn near the size of the Xbox 360 power brick. The cooling for the M18X works surprisingly well, my crotch hasn't caught on fire yet!

I upgraded the memory, the hybrid SSD and the Killer NIC myself :) (yes, I am aware I messed up the text in my pictures. I'm just too lazy to fix it. M18X, not MX18)

wish i had waited a few more months and got a couple of these instead of 580's. but i didn't know about these then so... damn you pc building for constantly putting me in these moments.

Boooo :( I can't use my GTX 670 Superclocked Editions because there is a recall on them because a few are faulty, and the 2 I bought are :(

Good part is that EVGA is doing cross shipping and upgrading everyone who got bad Superclocked Editions to FTW Editions :)

I have the 670 on its way too me, lucky enough to grab before going out of stock. Looking forward to seeing what these look like underwater as they are the shorted pcb versions! I am planning on going that route once EK releases the FC block for em. System looks amazing and jealous of the cinema display, used one at work for awhile and they are quite nice!

ICK! The white on the cards throw my entire color scheme off!

raven670sc2.jpg

raven670sc1.jpg

I can't wait until EK finishes making blocks for these so I can ditch the huge ugly coolers.

Although, this can be the perfect opportunity to re-sleeve everything that is orange to white and replace all my orange/white LED fans to Gentle Typhoons for the performance gain and matching color and to remove the 2 thick 360 radiators in the other compartment and stuff more hard drives in there. :D

My 670 FTWs which will replace my ailing superclocks have arrived! :D

I thought the white on the heatsink for the SC was bad, the green lettering is even worse! At least I won't have to endure it too long as I can order the EVGA 680 Hydro block and back plate since it's designed on the 680 PCB and they will fit.

I also did some benches with the new cards at stock speeds.

Some of the parts arrived so the water cooling porn can continue. I'm still waiting on a smaller package that has some Bitspower rotary fittings, which is holding me up!

Here are pictures of the XSPC Razor 680 GTX block, the SLI block and the EVGA 680 GTX back plates. I have to say that the XSPC block is pretty nice and wallet friendly, it's definitely a better option for me over the ugly EK circle of death blocks.

Hopefully the fittings will arrive today so I can mount the blocks and get my cards under water.

I just finished everything in the rig and with the photos, so here comes more hardware porn.

The EVGA 680 GTX back plates went on with no problems using the XSPC Razor 680 GTX blocks, the screw heads were slightly larger then the holes but the screw itself was long enough so there was no issue.

I also got my nifty Koolance QDC's into the mix now, so draining my loop or changing tubing will be tons easier now.
