so, i decided about two days ago, that i had seen about 90% of the porn on the internet, and decided to give my connection a break. Which led me to my next decision...
to finally start working on that case mod i had been wanting to do.
unfortunately, i dont have any pics of the way it started, but lets just say that i not only had to just 'take shit out,' i also had to drill, chisel, file, cuss, stomp, and kick to get some other shit out.
this project started out as a crapped out rackmount UPS case, and forgotten PII computer with a video card, a NIC card and PSU. oh, and it also booted. good enough for me.
so, with out further adieu, here are some pics.
here is what was left of the case that the guts originally came out of.
its a real beaut.
and here is the inside of the new case looking at the back
( i had to cut out that big hunk on the left for PSU exaust and connect and switch )
inside the case looking towards the front
view from the back, with the PSU installed, and the MB plate on top, before i cut a couple slots off so it would fit
backplane and PSU installed, before i did more cutting on the case
MB and PSU installed
holes in the bottom from a wall in the original case i had to take out, as well a the holes i had to drill so i could mount the HDD. you can also see that i did more cutting on the back of the case to better accomadate the backplane
I used an alum bar on the outside and inside for two reasons.
1 to cover up those nasty ass holes, and the other to give me something to mount the MB plane onto.
MB plane installed
MB and HDD installed
MB, HDD, and PSU installed
from the back
sorry i aint got no pics of the lid.
i'm sure i will in future posts.
i'm only planning on it being a web and mail server, so i figured the only time i would need a removable storage drive would be during install, so i'm not gonna bother putting one in.
i did the install this morning, its running debian and apache at the moment, but not too much is configured.
Next up:
accessories
followed by:
paint
anyone got some thoughts?
lets hear em.
---edit---
oh, and if anyone is curious, its a PII proc, with 128mb of ram, some sort of ati video card that works, a working 10/100 NIC, and a 250W power supply ( i think ).
honestly, the shit works, and it works awesome with debian, thats all i really care about at the moment. Once the quality of the case deserves it, i'll put some decent hardware in it.
oh, and its got a fujitsu 8.5Gb HDD. I'm tellin you, its pimpin.
