It appears that the mobo is raised off the bottom of the case a significant amount. Will there be anything beneath it?

if you go back to the previous page and look at the red "thong" it will make alot more sense. Thats whats under there.

is this going to be a htpc? i guess because the original case was a htpc case i assumed that was the main purpose of this build. But it doesn't look like you planned to put a video card in there, and i doubt the via has a great onboard chip(at least for the purpose of a htpc).

First off, thank you for your comment. I appreciate it.

The Ingraham certainly has the ability to mount a video card. You can see the two PCI slot covers in many of the photos. The VIA board will run any 16x PCIe video card but will have to be matched to the computer's limited power supply.

The onboard video is DirectX9 and that's not too shabby for onboard stuff.

I'll be brutally honest here....the purpose of the Ingraham is to attract journalists at CES so as to direct attention to my sponsor's products. It doesn't have to do anything more than that. The Ingraham will be displayed part of the time at Silverstone's booth. There it doesn't need to have any equipment installed at all. That was the original plan but other opportunities popped up.
 
Tell the guys a silverstone to keep making good cases when you see them! I have bought $900 worth of cases from them!

I think it's all down to taste. Personally, I'd leave it without, but it does add some nice contrast.
 
Thanks for that. I'm leaving it off for now because it it so much easier to finish the roof without it. I have a plan to transition the strap into the front's center circle that just might make it all work. Make it work? What next? Ties it all together?

Jeez, I need to stop watching the wife's TV shows.
 
the top strap ending in the circle would sure add a nice detail to the overall design. And a round gauge for HDD activity in the circle would bring it a little closer to the 1946 radio design .

what color will u paint the front grill ?

A clock would be cool but I have done that before. I'm having trouble finding a vintage meter that is the correct size and doesn't look like it got run over by a truck. What I need is a round 2.5" - 2.75" ammeter that has a 0-15 milliamperes scale. I believe the amperage coming from the HDD signal is around 10 mA.

Grill painting is being done today so stand-by....
 
Well, it depends on whether you're going for 'imitation' or 'inspiration' :)

IMO the top strap is an extension of the front section with the frequency selector, so if you go for the top part, you can't really leave off the front part either.

It looks like a somewhat modernized version of the old radio's design. Very stylish :)
 
What a great case! BTW I work for a veneer mill, do you know where your veneer came from?
