Project: Ingraham

What a great case! BTW I work for a veneer mill, do you know where your veneer came from?

Thanks! I love veneer mills. You got one of those gigantic lathe-like machines that slowly shaves off veneer from huge logs? Awesome things. I get my veneer through my friend's cabinet shop.

Maybe next time? Please? :D

Maybe. I'm calling the Ingraham a Proof of Concept design.

The concept is that you can take a large passive heatsink and integrate it into a case's design....and maybe do it with a little style. It's hard to explain without something to point to. Point. Point. Point.

Wait 'til they get a load of me.

Lol, yeah I sometimes run those "gigantic lathe-like machines" we call them half-rounds! (we have 4) It is really quite I fun job! (I am not exaclty a full-time worker, just in the summers for my best-friends dad's mill, I started out doing the grunt jobs and hopefully will have a nice office job after college!) Anyway, if you get to talk to your friend, I would be very interested to find out where his veneer comes from!

The only way to guarantee no damage with UPS is to ship it with a different carrier or encase it in carbonite. :)

It looks awesome by the way.

Wow from begging to near the end you have truly out done yourself its over the top and looks extremely nice.

Wow.. great job!!

I have that same pci slot blower thing. Got mine here in Korea though ^^

why do u want to ship that case with UPS ??? did i miss something ?
i wouldnt risk my computer being shipped by anyone other than myself .

I really like the effect of being able to see the vent holes, it makes it seem like speakers are behind them like there would be in a real radio.

very well done!

i read in the thread that the vents are for a additional cooling, but does the itx board need that much cooling? because you could maybe add some speakers behind them and install a small amp.
that would shurely be a kick ass radio.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

The speaker idea is cool but.....the front vents are the ONLY air inlets into the case. Then there's dealing with speaker magnets around computer equipment. Recipe for disaster in my mind. I could just toss the computer and install a radio but then I wouldn't be posting here. Hmmm...is there a [H]ardRadio somewhere? :D

im curious as to how much room is behind the grill, only in the aspect of adding in the speakers.. i know your not keen on the idea, however, if you set the speakers back about 3/4" air could still flow past them, and your could still make it a functional music player, it looked like you had enought space in there to include a amp section.

a set of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836166006 would have the right driver size, are shielded, and would be easy enought to rebuild the enclusures inside the case as one cabnet... i know they are bose, and even i dont like bose, however, these little radios wherent known for their sound quality any way, and with a little work, (and your wood working skills) they can be made to sound much better, and all in all, that little "radio" will sound better than any of the old ones ever did.

It is a compelling idea. I wonder how the speakers would sound after traveling nearly 4" through a 3" wooden hole? Space inside for an amp is not a problem.

Looks really nice :) Just missing some pics of the side and back ;)

Actually, I'm kind of surprised at how big (or at least how tall) it is, considering the diminuitive motherboard. What are the overall dimensions?

It is taller than I would have done a scratch-built version. That's the compromise of case modding. The Silverstone LC06 is large for a mini-ITX case because it fits a full-size CD drive, a 3.5" hard drive and two PCI slots

13 inches wide, 10.5 inches deep and 7 inches tall.

@ Slipperyskip
You did an excellent job from start to finish.
:D Now Im eagerly waiting for your next project

Thanks LostStorm! If you can't wait then you should check out some of my 20+ other projects I've done over the years.

Case Mod Gallery

Right now I'm seriously digging on the 1935 Zenith Model 811/812.

slipperyskip, get the logo cut out of thin aluminum and glue it onto the case. That would look awesome. Waterjet cutting would be the best would give a very clean edge. You could even get the letters chromed if you wanted to.

Another idea is a vinyl sticker. Most sign shops should be able to cut that for you and could get almost any color you want.

Those are good ideas. They smell like serious money being spent too. I'll check it out though. Thanks!

Excellent job from beginning to end. I looked forward to every update and can't wait for your next project.

Have you had a Rig Of The Month from maximum pc for some of your mods?

I think i have seen one of them looking back in my magazines.
