Project: "Constellation" Desktop Cluster

Looking real nice kahm.
Whats the headset you have dangling in that picture of your desk?

Next step in the process is to whack a couple of chunks out of the case to make room for some of the equipment I'm installing.

Top part is for the power controls, bottom is for the fans.

Ready to rumble!:

This case is not a fun thing to cut through. I'm doing this at 3 in the afternoon, and it's so loud that I've got angry neighbors slamming their doors.

Once that's done, I can focus on the back panels.

The hitherto unseen back of the case:

And after the panels were fabricated. No need for a step by step, as it isn't very interesting.

The completed front of the case. It has a retro Captain Proton style look...

Now, it's time to organize the guts.

A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES!

I found something in the junk drawer that might work well in my build...

Now, to find room in the case front for it. Physical work will be suspended until I see if this thing is useful enough for installation. It will probably require a lot of custom programming, and I'm out of practice.

Inspiration came from Cray's CX1 desktop cluster:

Hmmm, interesting :)

Still a little weary of the all aluminum front. What was wrong with the original steel? Can you go show us a plan of what you are going to be doing next? Would like to kind of visualize how this is going to work :p

The original front was basically made of slotted 5 1/4" bay covers (most of which were missing), panel cut outs for the original controls, and a pair of 80mm fans. The aluminum is just an expedient way of covering everything up and letting me mount things to it.

I'll be mounting the KVM and Switch soon - that should give you a better idea of where I'm going with it. The front of the case isn't going to be very pretty, unfortunately.

Sorry but this all just reminded me of this. more info.

Maybe just throw the KVM in there and build a little aluminum cube around it?

That server case looks god awfully heavy and a lot of extra room.

Just a thought :)
