"Project Black"

I hope T-MO does this. It will put huge preesure on everyone else. It wouldn't be enough to get me to switch back, but I'd love more downward pressure on rates.

T-Mobile's data network has been semi-decent for the sole reason that no one uses it. That is about to change in a huge way if this actually goes through, which won't be good for data users on that network.

On the flipside, why would they even consider rolling out something like this if they knew the network couldn't handle it.

All we can really do is wait and see but if they get 3G in my area, I may just leave AT&T.

That's when you get coverage.

Even in the cities that have "3G" it's hit or miss. Nothing like crusing around on a connected device sitting on Edge.

Eventually, I think T MO will get there. But it's going to take continual and massive data upgrades for them to be a serious contender. Their voice service has always been ok for me, but the lack of real data coverage was what made me leave after 7 years.

I think they are doing it because their parent company, Deutsche Telekom, lit a fire under their ass. They have been in financial trouble for quite some time now, and T-Mobile's business model needed to be shaken up. Hopefully it doesn't backfire on them.

I think T-Mobile should have skipped HSDPA+ and instead invested a ton of money into a 4G technology. Probably wouldn't attract quite as many customers, but there would also be less risk of crippling their network.

sprint has been the biggest pusher of a network that is designed to stream audio and video. they will be the first to have video chat phones, and their network is consistently faster then other carriers. tmo sucks for streaming, as does att. an unlimited plan from either of those companies wouldnt mean a whole lot when you cant even stream orb effectively.

Actually rogers would be the first NA carrier with video phones ;) Have had them for a while. THEORETICALLY, ATT could do them right now if they wanted to.

Kinda sucks how carriers here love to restrict so many things. Europe has had video calling capability for probably at least 4 years. AT&T actually offers 1-way video calling right now as far as I remember (as none of their phones have front facing cameras).

you know i could see tmobile being like america online. Remmember when they switched to the unlimited internet, and they didn't have enough capacity. You had to get an autodialer just to get a reasonable connect time.

So Oct 25th is coming up pretty soon, any update rumors ? Are they selling the first Android 2.0 phone next week, with $50 unlimited everything package  Yeah then I woke up ;)

So tomorrow is the big day, whats the deal ? Killer monthly packages ? Fastest 3G service ?

So it is official now, and not sure if this is a killer deal or not ?

If you want Unlimited minutes that's $59, + Unlimited Data + Text that's $40 = grand total of $99 per month. Thats good, way better than ATT for sure, but Sprint has that beat with their pricing I thought of like $70 a month Unlimited everything plan ?

So at the end of the day the Project Black is just a $99 per month plan for Unlimited everything. I am not too impressed

@ Zorachus
Beat me to it
Thanks for posting the information
Hopefully with new deals some better service will come with it
Edit - Just check my main account and its same plans, so look like they did away with loyality plans
as Zorachus mention before, I might check out sprint $70 plan.

750 minutes with unlimited SMS and data on 4 lines for $120 a month. Time to call AT&T to complain and get my current bill lowered. :D

I live in a "3G" city with T-Mo, and my coworker has their service. It's literally a block-by-block hunt for 3G service. I've seen him dip back to edge walking 100 feet over. He's not a huge cell phone guy, but he loves his G1, looks like he's coming over to Sprint when I switch. He'll save money and get better service.

decent prices, however I can't see this making much of an improvement for t-mo marketshare. sprint has better pricing and much better coverage for anyone looking at value.

$70 to sprint for unlimited mobile calls, text, web, and sprint subsidizes the phone OR $80 to t-mo and you need to pay for your own phone and no contract. then if you need unlimited calls to landlines and a subsidized phone, t-mo is only matching sprint's $100 price and not beating it...

unless someone happens to live in an area with good t-mo coverage and has no plans to travel, this just looks like 'project mediocre' instead of a game changer.

I'm also sticking with them for their great customer service. Thankfully with EM+ i'll be able to save a decent amount on my bill, went ~$97 a mo, to 65 a month, while not as much a "game changer" as the hype had anticipated, i'm all about lowering my bill. There's also the HD2/Dragon on it's way to T-Mobile sometime in Q1 2010 to look forward too, as well as the rapid HSPA+ rollout that's been rumored in 2010. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

2 things, one Sprints data network is one of the fastest, def faster than t-mobile, 2 their customer service seems to have improved a lot from the reputation they had.

So sprint has, better phones, better pricing, better data network, why would someone go with tmobile?

People keep on talking about customer service, what are you doing that requires you to get customer service so much anyways? Wouldnt it be best if you never even had to call customer service? The fact that people know so much about t-mobiles customer service makes me think they are messing up in some way with the service.

The plan that competes with sprints plan is 79.99 with an UNsubsidized phone? So 10 dollars more a month compared to sprint for customer service? 120 bucks a year for good customer service?

IDK as of right now I do not see why anyone would pick t-mobile over spring UNLESS they travel, or Sprints coverage sucks where they are.

BGR had a report that showed sprint to have some of the fastest 3g data speeds.

Still happy with my $50 unlimited text/data/300mins T-Mobile plan.

I love Sprint. Been here for a few months, and it was the right move. T-Mo does have great CSR, but their data speeds are terrible. Just couldn't justify spending what I was @ T Mobile without access to 3G.
