Programs won't finish installing

I purchased a Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX27676(ME).aspx) earlier this week. I installed Windows without a hitch and everything appeared to work. However, recently I've tried to install some programs (3DMark06, some drivers, etc.) but the installation never completes. It will get to 100% and usually where a completion screen pop-ups where you click finish, that never shows up. Task manager says the program status is "running" and the CPU usage is at 00. If I hit cancel, the setup will roll back.

I've tried HD Tune and it shows nothing is wrong, ran Scandisk and it found no errors. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't sound like a HD problem to me.

Try installing something in safe mode.

I tried that and the same thing happens. Unfortunately, the same programs that have a hard time finishing their installation also have a hard time finishing their uninstallation.

Perhaps a format is in order?

Have you tried installing without your UAC/Antivirus running? I know these can cause hangups like you've mentioned occassionlly.

Disabled firewall and anti-virus and things install like a charm. Thanks for the suggestion.
