Problems with my Droid X

I'm an iPhone convert, so bear with me on this...

Couple of issues with my Droid X, may be common knowledge but I haven't seen anything detailing this.


1) It looks like VZW blocks a couple of ports on their 3G. I'm having trouble connecting to IRC (ports 6000-7000) as well as IMAPS (port 993). Anyone know anything about this?

2) I'm having trouble sending mail via SMTPS. When I send an email it just says "authentication error sending" and it sits in my outbox. No additional information provided. I'm sure that the login credentials are correct.


Anyone have any insight?

login credentials may be correct, but if it's an isp email your isp might be blocking the outgoing email because it's not coming from one of their servers..

1. IRC is blocked on the 3G network. It should work on 'the WiFis'

2. Could be an issue with the authentication method(may need SSL encryption I think in some cases) or may be using a different port? Just a few ideas since you did not mention what type of service(i.e. yahoo, google, work) you have

I understand some ISPs commonly block regular SMTP to any servers other than their own, but I'm connecting via SMTPS. Another thing is it doesn't even work properly when I'm connected to our wifi at work, which is also on the same network the SMTPS server resides on. Same exact problem on wifi and 3g.

Did you check the
authentication required box in the acount set up?
