Problems with F@H clients.

Does your user account have admin rights or are you running install.bat as administrator?

The client is trying to make an active connection to your PC via this port. So..this port will need to be open in your firewall settings. You may have you local firewall allowing this port, but your router firewall may be blocking it as well. I suggest you go into your Dlink (typically 192.168.0.1) admin console and try allowing port 8676 to your IP address. If you are DHCP assigned I would suggest you give yourself a static IP and allow the port access to that static IP for testing purposes.

As I am at work, and it would not be kosher to adjust our firewall settings (as they are set via group policy) I will attempt to play around with it at home and report my findings. That or you could do it and see if it helps. :p

BAH! I just tried with my more elevated domain privlege and it worked here at work. *Rubs chin* That being said...then perhaps your permissions are not being handed correctly.

Have you tried CTRL + RightClicking on install.bat and clicking Run as Administrator? Worth a shot. Or...instead of inputing your local account, try using the administrator account for the login/password information.

And I see that you have attempted to manually enter your account name by itself. Have you tried entering in the name with the domain/user as it suggest? So type in fully zero/username.

So...I have now tested this at work. Results:

Trial 1)
account <domain\users> [FCM\abudhu]
password:
confirm password:

Fail

Trial 2)
account <domain\users> [FCM\abudhu] fcm\abudhu
password:
confirm password:

Works

Trial 3)
account <domain\users> [FCM\abudhu] fcm\budhu
password:
confirm password:

Works

Trial 4)
account <domain\users> [FCM\abudhu] abudhu
password:
confirm password:

Fail

So give ^^ that a whirl. Enter in the full user name with domain.

Edit: Can you tell its nearing the end of the work-day and things have gotten slow here? I can!
 
Are you using the 5.92 SMP client? I had nothing but problems with that one. I went back to 5.91 and all went well.

 
Just tried what abudhu suggested, still did not work.

Also, I am using 5.91.

Hmm couldn't she install a vmware and run a linux distro and set that up to fold ? Would that circumvent the issues she has been having with vista ? I haven't had to much hands on experience with vista so I'm a bit in the dark.

Don't know much about the VM :) How do you get that setup and working?? And does it affect performance at all? I want this to work :( :(

Theres a howto floating around, gimme a sec. The performance is actually better than straight windows.
 
I've found that VM's don't play well with Vista ........... :mad:
You need to hit F8 to run with un-signed drivers every time you boot.
Its why I'm not running Vista.

It does sound like a Vista permissions problem.

Oh wow! That's a long guide, I'm going to try this tonight :)

One question, since it doesn't affect the performance of the folding and stuff, does doing all of this affect the performance of my computer? I bought this thing to do some 'hardcore gaming' but I have barely played anything on it yet ;) Just TF2 and a little WoW for now.. Lots of web surfing and music playing though ;) So I have a lot of unused power here.

Not really.
The 2x VM's only load a Quad to ~96% so theres still headroom..
If you need more CPU time then just stop one client while you game.
I have more trouble with the uploads of a finished work-unit causing my online games to lag than I have of the VM's slowing down the games I play.

When did you last try mate? I have found the latest builds of VirtualBox / Vmware / Parallels to all work nicely with Vista x64 and x32 editions.

So it was still giving you that error about not being able to connect? Thats odd. While VMs will most likely give you a working scenario thats a lot of work (debatable) to just pump up your PPD.

This problem is rather intriguing as many of the solutions offered should have fixed that sucker. I wonder whats going on.

Er, alternatively if you want to go the VM route, and your having trouble following the guide, you can always download the VMware Player + Pre-Made Machine (of which there are many to choose).
 
Tigerbiten, I have 2 dedicated folding boxens with Vista Business 32 bits and you don't need to hit F8. It's only the 64 bits edition which need it ;)

I run two smp clients on my quad, I leave it running and while playing games like Bioshock and Team Fortress 2 with no performance hit in either game. Most games now a days are gpu limited than cpu limited so folding while gaming doesn't have to much of a negative impact.

Any luck with the vm's ?

I actually haven't had a chance yet to do the whole VM installation, because I've been at my sisters house, babysitting my nephew heh. Before I left my house, though, I got the graphical client to at least work on my new computer, so I have both of my boxes running the graphical client for now at least :)

Once I get home, I'm going to try the VM.. hopefully it will work!
