Been having problems still with F@H ;)

Wrote about it in the 'mugs' thread... (This is my third day since joining the [H]orde!) I was using the graphical client, but I tried downloading the SMP client (I think it is the right one..) And this is what happens when I try to install:

OpenSCManager failed:

Couple questions:

Which version of windows are you running?
Do you have the .NET Framework v2.0 installed?
Where are you attempting to install the client?

 
Do you have Vista? If so, turn off UAC.

You can turn it back on later.

1. Vista 64-bit
2. Uhm.. I'm.. not sure :eek: If it didn't come either with Vista or an update or SP1, then no.. I don't think I have it.
3. Trying to install it on my C drive (I have two HDDs right now), trying to install it on the drive with the OS.
 
I checked your sig... so you have Vista 64 bit?

We should be able to solve this. I have many Vista boxen running the SMP.



 
Vista comes with the .Net stuff. No worries there.

Try to install it in a new unique directory, like this:

c:\folding

or

c:\smp

Okay I'm going to try installing to a new directory next.. I tried just turning off UAC and I got this when I tried to install:

I think with Vista 64 you must use 5.91 and don't use 5.92.

Make sure you reboot after turning UAC off. The change requires a reboot.

I hope you d/l'ed the 5.91.

This is really complicated.
 
It's okay :) I'm using the 5.91, not 5.92.

I uninstalled, and installed it again to C:/folding and got this again:

And you have a password on your account, and of course you put in your username and password the same as what Vista recognizes?

just grasping at straws....
 
Yup! :( Did that too! Something is up... and I can't figure out what!

Should I try putting the SMP client on my other computer too? It's still folding right now, using the graphical one. That computer is using XP 32-bit.

This is where you are going wrong.. when it gives you the user name just hit the enter key.. then type in your password.. you are unknowingly changing the user name

Tried just pressing enter, then a password... Still the same thing happens. Should I try uninstalling it, again, and installing it, again"?
 
Hmm, definitely some type of authentication issue. Are you positive that the password you are entering is the same exact password as your Vista password?

I don't know anything about domains. What is the "zero" domain that you have?
 
Zero sounds like it should be her computer name.

 
Yes, sorry I should have confirmed that :) Zero is my computers name, and Stickable Stars is my Vista Account name.

Gasping at straws at this point but do you have any anti-virus or anti-spyware apps running?

 
I think it may be due to the space in the user name. Try to make a new one with no space and with a password then test with this one.

Same thing happens, even with a new account with no spaces.. :( I'm going crazy! All this wasted time (And I can't get the graphical client to work either, it hasn't in two days).. The other is still folding (Not using SMP) but still.. I must get it to work on this computer also somehow. :(
 
I guess the networking config is borked...

Are you connecting the box to a domain or only on the workgroup ?

 
Workgroup, I think? Modem -> Router -> This box, my 2nd one and my fathers laptop (wireless). They're all on the same network.
 
Can you take a screen shot of the page with the network config (computer and workgroup name) ?

Oh, no no.. I tried it without typing it in at first, and then since it didn't work, I thought I may as well try to type it in.. Since nothing has worked so far :)

Edit: I know it probably has nothing to do with it.. but I never installed any updates for Nvidia Networking Controller. There are some in my Windows Update that I never installed because I remember someone telling me not to.. Hmmmm.
