Hi all.
First off ill tell you my system specs:

asus p5b deluxe latest bios
evga nvidia 8800 gts
silverstone zeus 850w power supply
intel E6600
creative x-fi sound card
Corsair XMS 2 TWIN2X Matched Pairs 2048MB
seagate 7200 rpm 320 hard drive

Sometimes when i reboot or start up my machine it locks up ont he windows logo screena nd i can see the little blue bar locking up and i have to reset in order to restart the machine and most of the times it will just boot right back into windows.
This random lock ups are driving me insane , the cpu temperature at idle is at 37 degrees and the memory i have tested it and it runs fine i also tryed it out on my other machien and works perfectly. My other machine run an asus p5b vanilla with pretty much same configuration and it runs perfect.
What can be causing this lock ups?

PS i also exchanged the motherboard 2 times and same results.

Lockups at that screen for me are always overclocking and/or reliablity related, ie, something isn't set right or is overclocked too much in the bios. Most likely memory related and/or timing related. For example, my computer will lock up if at the windows loading screen if I set the FSB to 400 x8 but I can run 460x7 orthos stable at stock voltage...something to do with the strap/timings ect.

You should see if you have the same problem after setting the bios to their default values.

What is your OC like? If your in the area of 380-400FSB set the FSB to 401 (different strap) and see if it happens. Most likely this is a memory timing/sub timing issue. Perhaps set the timings to 5/5/5/15 and see what happens, or set the Vdimm to 2.2+ and see what happens.

Hi and thx for replys.
I didnt OC this board its running at stock speeds=/ I saw the review here on [H] site on the p5b deluxe and Dan sayd he experienced some lock ups on this board has well wile installing the operating system. It could be the ram, but this lock ups are so random and most of the times once im windows everything runs fine, so i doubt is the ram and i havent touch the timing on the ram, they are set at stock speed.
Im really thinking of going with a 975 chipset instead cause i think they are more stable.
What 975 chipset motherboard you guys would reccomend?

I was thinking of this : Asus P5W64 WS Professional
Asus P5WDG2 WS Professional
Asus P5W DH Deluxe

the p5wdg2 is the one im really thinking of but im not to sure=) What do you guys reccomend , in other words what the best 975 chipset out there from asus or maybe another brand?

thx a lot for reply`s.

PS by the way i forgot to mention that i have no idea what can be causing this lock ups and they are extremely random. The cpu temperature at idle is around 37 degrees, the memory works fine i tested it before and also tryed it out on my other machine that runs a p5b vanilla trouble free and i also already RMA the p5b deluxe and got another one but same thing happened. On this board i aslo had to disable the USB legacy support cause my mouse would stop responding on it and since i disable that it fixed the problem.
My only choice atm is to accept this random lock ups =) or just get a different board.
I also forgot to mention that the first time i noticed this lock ups was after i had installed the drivers for the creative x-fi sound card and has soon has i rebooted after installation i got a lock up=/
Could the sound card be doing this? i have no other sound card to test this with. But i also have another creative x-fi on my p5b vanilla system and it doesnt lock up so i doubt its the card =/
Also if it was bad memory it would give me more problems then just random lock ups right? like blue screens, restarts etc...?
Sorry for all this question but im still a bit of a noob at all of this , tryng to learn=)

You can try reinstalling the Windows without the X-Fi and see how it behaves but the first thing you should do is flash the BIOS (to 0614).

If for any reason you think your XF-i is causing your instability, do this: Make sure your using the new drivers posted on creatives site, and make sure your using your XF-i @ "64" for PCI latency.

Where is that? Bios or driver?

its graphics drivers related. Try a few different versions. Format , reinstall the card, fresh instal etc.

If your saying PCI latency is graphics card related, your WRONG ;) . On creatives forums, they clearly say that using 64, or 128 for PCI latency, corrects some compatablity with there cards.
