amd 64 3400
msi k8n neo platinum
thermaltake 420 watt psu
bfg geforce 6800

i had a problem with bent pins on my cpu so i got a new cpu. the computer with the old cpu would power on (all fans would spin) but it would not post. i would turn it on and immediately there would be a short high pitched beep and the computer would turn off. After doing this a couple of times the computer no longer would power on. i just installed the new cpu and the comp will still not power on. what could i have damaged by restarting my computer and then having it shut off? is there anything i could be missing?

Is your HSF seated correctly? Is it plugged into the Mobo on the CPU fan header?

everything is seated correctly now that i got the new cpu but the comp wont power on never mind post.

Is there a short somewhere? Take it out of the case and run it there to see if it works (on cardboard or something).

start from checkig if there isn't anything shorting the mobo...make sure you plugged the power switch into appropriate pins. Try different PSU... if that don't do anything - it's probably the mobo..

i took the mobo out of the case and placed on a table and then tried to start it with just the cpu, ram, and video card. there was just a long high pitched tone which leads me to believe that the cpu or heatsink is not installed correctly. the only way the cpu fits is if the gold arrow is in the far corner away from the pivot lever although a video from amd's website says to put the gold arrow in the same corner as the pivot lever. so how should the cpu go into the socket? **edit** i put the cpu in the only way it would fit (the gold arrow facing away from the lever) and reinstalled the heatsink. now it will not power on again. i am completely confused!?!
