Problem with Corsair Nautilus

I just bought a Corsair Nautilus, thinking it would be a great way to get into watercooling and so far, I have had nothing but problems with it!

1) The waterblock is tarnished around the edges. I tried cleaning it with 99% isopropyl alcohol, and nothing came off, so it has to be in the metal. Not sure if it is affecting temperatures at all, but it looks awful and makes it look like a bought a no-name waterblock.

2) The fan stops spinning randomly! This really, really sucks. I go away for a couple hours, come back, and the fan hasn't been spinning and I am idling at 47'C! If I hit the fan, it starts spinning again. I can hear the fan right now spinning up and down. Maybe a bad bearing?

So I posted on Corsar's House of "Help" and was told to RMA the unit. The problem is, I don't have another cooler, I live in Canada and I really don't want to spend $30+ to get the thing shipped to the US.I can't live without my computer for a month, that just won't fly. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe Redbeard can be more helpful than the guy on their forums?
 
Disconnect the block and leave it in some white vinegar overnight. Then clean it with rubbing alcohol, and maybe put some clear nail polish over the sides (not the contact area) if you want it to never tarnish again.
As for the fan, I think it's just a straight 120mm fan, so you could probably just buy one and replace it by opening the unit up.

EDIT: I thought so. I just re-read [H]'s review of the nautilus, and the fan has the opposite gender of molex on it, so you'll have to do some rewiring of it.
 
Sounds like a defective unit, so you should RMA it. Just go to a store and buy a cheap heatsink/fan to use in the meantime. It sucks but I don't see any other option here.
 
Use your stock heatsink or buy one and then RMA the unit.
 
the block is cosmetic, if you really care do the vinegar, or try brasso etc. and seal it with clear nail polish as mentioned above.

I have resurected some fans with this method, not 100% tho,

with an exacto knife carefully pry the sticker 1/2 off the fan to expose the bearings, you can feel with your finger if there is a void under the middle of the sticker before you start and to make sure you are on the back side of the fan, not the hub with the blades attached.
Put a single small drop of motor oil (NOT 3 in 1 or WD40) in the void where the bearing is, set the unit so gravity will help the oil go into the fans guts for an hour, spin the fan by hand a bit, let it sit another hour. Then put the sticker back, normally it will stick by itself but if not use a glue stick or even bettter, a tiny bit old fashioned rubber cement/glue found in office supply sections of stores.
 
crap! My pump just started making an odd rattling-type noise in my nautilus, but it's still functioning normally otherwise. Is my pump dying?
 
when i opened up my nautilus to take a look around, the fan had a regular 3 pin connector that was connected to a female 3 pin connector. I was going to take it out and put in a yate loon but the stupid tiny screws holding in the fan stopped me. So as long as you have the right size hexagonal screw you could swap out the fan. Lemme just say those screws are tiny though.
