me an laptops dont get along.....

my friend is at uni and she asked me to look at hers, so heres the problem......


first of all its a laptop lol

i can boot it up all the way to the log in screen and log in to her account, but after that explorer isnt running, and it wont let me run it manualy, it gives me some silly error like i dont have permission.

yet if i run it in safemode it all works :S any ideas guys?
 
Backup the data, reformat and reinstall? :D Though maybe a repair install might work just as well.

Though it might be a viral/malware infection.
 
ah so i shud put the vista disk in and run a repair... ill try lolz theres too much to back up tbh lol so i wud have to fix it
 
With Vista, a repair is a bit tricky. You have to slipstream the latest updates/sp into the install disk and during setup, choose the upgrade option -- which would effectively repair the current installation if any critical OS files were damaged. However, if malware is the culprit, it will still exist and possibly re-infect the repaired files. Therefore, download malwarebytes and run it while in safemode. Do the same with spybot. If you can, also download, update, and run MS Security Essentials. After the system has been cleaned, and the problem persists, then try the repair.

Though, I'll admit, its probably easier to do as Danny suggested: backup her needed data, reformat/reinstall. ;)
