I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit, q6600 @ 3.6, 4gb ram, 750gb hdd.

I already tried the wiki install guide or whatever, followed it to the dot....didn't work.

I get this error when trying to install reguarly.

OpenSCManager failed:
Access is denied. (error 5)
Unable to remove the previous installation, install failed.

Press any key to continue . . .

I keep getting that error, no matter what....when I try to run install.bat as administrator through command, or directly I get this:

'smpd' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
'mpiexec' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
'mpiexec' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

Press any key to continue . . .

So, what should I do now?

Did you install to the "Program Files" folder.
If you did, move it up a level as Visa has extra security agaimt programs running in that folder.

You should have the smpd.exe & the mpiexec.exe programs in your folding folder.
When you first try to run the install.bat, you need to let these two programs through any firewall you have running.

I don't run Vista so don't have a lot of experance trouble shooting it.

Luck .......... :D

install in a folder like this:

c:\folding

or

c:\FAH

or

c:\smp

turn off UAC (User Account Control) before installing

you can turn UAC back on when you are done

Try this and see if this works for you

make sure to run the install.bat as well

That did it, thanks. For the [H]ORDE!

If you continue to have problems, I'd suggest installing VMware and a linux instance; the linux SMP client is much more stable in my experience.

I still have nightmares about the WinSMP client in Vista. I mean literal screaming, cold-shakes kinda thing

:D
