Problem Installing Programs on New Build

Just built a sandy bridge system, i5 2500k, asus p8p67 deluxe, gskill ripsaw 8gb ram, pcp&c psu. I kept my old 150gb WD raptor though. I have this plugged into the SATA 3Gb/s ports.

Reformatted drive with Windows 7 after I installed the new hardware. On first reformat, computer was locking up on Windows Update. Thinking I screwed something up I decided to reformat again. This one goes better, windows updates fine. Start installing necessary software, MSVS 2010, 7zip, java, eclipse, komodo, etc etc. Everything is fine until I start installing games. Each game I try to install, both from disc and from image on drive, fails at some point with some kind of data error. What's weird is I had no problem ripping SC2 from the disc to an ISO on my hard drive, but when I install, same error every time. Same with Dragon Age, etc etc. I'm not sure if this is driver or hardware related. I reformatted again after this second time and the same problem persisted.

I've flashed my mobo to the latest BIOS, I installed the drivers for my mobo from the disc and from the ASUS website. Before this the hard drive had been working fine. I can't seem to boot into WD's HDD diagnostic tool for some reason. Prime95 runs great for hours with no errors and good temps.

I'm at a loss here, any help appreciated.

Edit: I've also switched the SATA cables to the drive and put the drive in a different SATA 3Gb/s port. Still no luck.
Edit 2: This is a B3 revision board.
 
Are you sure you drive is working properly? I would download the western digital tools and check the drive for errors.

Edit: Sorry, I just read you already tried that. Do you have another drive to use? Could be the drive just went south on you.
 
Well, I just got a different drive from a friend. It's also a raptor. Went ahead and reformatted it and started installing SC2. Worked flawlessly. Uninstalled, reinstalled. Perfectly flawless again. And did it again. Same result. Now here's the weird part. At that point I hadn't bothered installing any of the drivers for the motherboard except the Intel LAN ones so that I could install SC2. However, when I then went ahead and installed all the rest and tried to reinstall SC2, bam, same problem I've been having. Failed in the middle of install. I'm not in the process of reformatting again and will install the drivers one by one to see if I can narrow down a culprit, or see if this is really the case.

I'm wondering if it's because the raptors are 1.5Gb/s while the port is a 3.0Gb/s port? I've never thought this was supposed to be a problem. Maybe it's that coupled with the chipset? I'll have to see which driver is the problem anyway, and report back.

Could be a defective motherboard.

Not a problem.
 
Sounds like a bad component somewhere. I would check your memory. Try using one stick at a time to see if the same thing happens.
 
Turns out it's the JMicron JMB SATA 6Gb/s drivers that cause everything to fail and be awful. I'm guessing this is a component problem like you guys have mentioned. Guess I'll have to RMA the board, and hope my luck is better with the next one.
 
Well it isn't the mobo, unless this new one that I just got is faulty as well. Found an ASUS P8P67 Pro at a Micro Center and went ahead and grabbed it so I could test it out. Installed all the mobo drivers, exact same problem.

Didn't try a different DVD drive but did try installing from an ISO on the hard disk and no go.

However, I finally got Memtest86+ to boot up. Not sure why it wouldn't before. 400 errors in less than 5 minutes. So I'm guessing at least one of these sticks is bad. Really should have figured this was it. But what I find strange is that Prime95 didn't give me any memory errors and I've not had the computer actually crash on me. I guess next step, I'll get some new RAM, and try that out.
