I used them for a few years and had great results until they started advertising on linus tech tips yt channel then speeds went to shit.. after a few months of no improvement I switched to nord vpn and have had great results with them so far, speed consistently 100-200+ speeds (I have gigabit fiber connection). I was struggling to get better than 20-30 mb speeds on pia, prior to them advertising on LTT I was getting 100+ speeds with no problems, I had over a year left on my service with them when I switched too.

Thats weird. I still pull 200-300 megabits on my gigabit. 200 on the low end of servers far away, 300 to ones close by.

I think you have to open a new account. Not that it matters much since you dont put in any personal information.

Just wondering because I've been a member for 2-3 years now. Though, it appears I am grandfathered in to a cheaper yearly payment, they raised the prices quite a bit since I signed up.

I can say that 3 years for $80 is a steal, though. Always had great service through PIA.

hmm, how long have you been using them? Wonder if they resolved it.. I would imagine they got a lot of new subs after advertising on LTT, that is the only thing I could think of why the speeds fell so much for me, tried many of their servers also. I used them on multiple pcs and all had the same results. I even put a ticket in about it and just got a generic response.. uninstalled pia and installed nord and speed issues were solved for me, this was 6+ months ago now.

Ive been on it at least 6 years. I've had gigabit for over 2 of those. I have it on my media download server and on my personal computers and get the same speeds on both. Downloading on something from usenet gets me about 40-60 megabytes per second through it and speed tests show between 200 megabit and 450 megabit.

Edit: I remoted into my media download server and picked Silcon Valley as the server (notoriously the worst for me).

Between DNS over TLS and general traffic mostly going over HTTPS now, aren't VPNs mostly "feel good" privacy now-a-days?

It’s still the difference between a letter from your ISP or not, and also nice for watching content that is country locked.

I've been using PIA for three years and so far so good, I'm not sure if the major streaming services work with it though.

Been using PIA as well for 1+ year now. I think I bought the 5 yr deal so it was really cheap.

I haven't really tried anything. I get my netflix shows through... other methods that also benefit from a VPN ;)

I don't have to worry about someone watching my internet usage as they don't make enough eye bleach for what I use my internet for. Just remember, what has been seen, can't be unseen. :watching::jawdrop::sick::vomit:

I can say that Netflix does not work for me through PIA using a US server, while also being in the US.

I just end up using my Smart TV's Netflix app since it's not running through PIA.

So you use a VPN for privacy, but then turn around and use your smart TV which is recording everything all the time?

I'm not trying to be a dick, but help me understand here. I was having issues with 4k HDR on the desktop so I had to reluctantly setup my Samsung 8000's app...It's quite speedy and quality looks as good as you get with streaming, but I feel so dirty. I need to figure out which ports to block on my router so it cannit phone home...

My wifey loves the ease of the app, but I hate turning it in and seeing ads for movie rentals that are clearly based on my useage...

Back on topic, I have used IPT for all my Linux ISO needs for 10+ yesrs over 3 different ISPs. (Comcast, Mediacom, and now Spectrum) with no VPN and no issues. I never use public trackers and configure my torrent client properly...

But to add, those of you on Gigabit are saying you only see 200-400Mbps speeds? (~26-54ish MB/S ON ISO grabs)...if there his that much overhead what would I see with Spectrum's stupid 400 down and only 20 up plan?

I use a VPN for a number of reasons, but I guess Netflix being able to know I'm watcing on my Smart TV isn't one of them.

Using a VPN at home is a bonus- on mobile, it's a necessity.

At home for me as I stated earlier between DLS over TLS and general traffic mostly going over HTTPS now, nearly all my web traffic is shielded from my ISP. I'm not illegally streaming so I'm not worried about my video streams.

When you're out and about some of the situation is the same. I have DLS over TLS on my phone configured (android 9 FTW) and most chrome and youtube traffic is HTTPS.

That being said, all the apps you use, public wifi, probably have questionable if any encryption, beyond WPA2.

To rectify this situation I have IPSec set up on my pfsense box at home and I almost always have the VPN tunnel turned on sending all my traffic home, encrypted.

I love PIA, yes their speeds arent the best but their software is great, their support is great and I have never had an issue. I actually let my GF use it on her phone and it fixed a network issue she was having. Great deal.

5 hours left on deal. I think it's a good buy for the three years.

Well here is the issue..if you want to keep your account at say $39.95, locking that price for good, then you will have to pay $80 (well $60 as there is a code for $60 for years it seems) for the 3 years PLUS 39.95 today . So you end up saving $20 in years while locking your current price.
Or you can just pay the $80 for the 3 years but then after 3 years you will be paying whatever the price is at that time.

That is what they told me so I figured I rather keep my $39.95 locked price instead.

Meh. Have current price as well, but I think when it expires it goes to new price.

$80 (well, $72 with discount) for 3 years puts me far enough out that I may want to change products. And that's like $2/mo between now and then - about half the legacy rate on a yearly basis.

The benefits are also additive too when you consider that on my home firewall I block advertising and malicious domains. Before I moved I also had a pihole in addition to the Meraki firewall blocking these domains and my mobile experience was just that much better.

I spoke to a well-informed person who understands security much more than I do. When I asked him what VPN he used he said nord, so word of mouth as much as anything else. He did not say anything bad about PIA nor have I had any real issues, I just got itchy feet syndrome.
He stressed "never use a free vpn" because you get what you pay for, but we all know that. ;)
