I just got my ASUS AN7 a few hours ago and I finsihed installing everything but I ran Prime95 and the test lasted 0 minutes! I bumped up my voltage to 1.75 but no good, my CPU temps are 40-45C load. The rest of my system specs are below. Anyone know what the hell could be wrong?

Downloaded the newest version to test on.

Looks like its time for a RMA. Anyone got any suggestions for a new motherboard besides the A7N8X and AN7?

I heard alot of good things about the NF7-S, I think I'm going to buy one of those.

Great, time to go through the RMA process.

Does it fail @ stock speed? also ... maybe to tight memory timings ...

Memory timings are at default, on my last motheboard memtest86 lasted hours with no errors so the memory is fine.

At 2500+ speeds it lasts longer and I havn't seen it fail but I only ran it for a few minutes. My last motherboard ran 3200+ speeds fine before the CMOS was corrupted(I got a lemon ASUS board)

I'd recommend the MSI K7N2 Delta -L then... haven't failed me yet on 4 builds ... just bumped the FSB to 200 ... everything else at auto ... and it's all set ...

Oh no, Prime95 fails  Does it run all your software fine? Game fine? Any stability problems other than Prime? If not, who cares? My CPU would probably fail Prime95 because I run everything right on the brink but as long as I can game all I want and run the system 24/7 than I don't care.

I concer with you. People put too much stock in these freaking programs. If the machine does all that you want it to do, who cares if Prime95 doesn't?

If it's mine I agree ... but if it's for somebody else ... then I don't give it to them without being stable on everything ...

Well for some applications, you can't know if they are doing what you want them to do unless you run prime (folding@home, for example)

That motherboard is a big steaming pile of shit. Its not the CPU, its the motherboards lacking ability to work with most ram.

Set your ram to single channel mode, 190-195FSB, or RMA it. I had the same problem, i returned it and got a DFI and never looked back.

UT2004 lasts about 5-10 minutes before a crash, I was lucky to even get it to install as it would crash in the installer 4/5 times. The AN7 is officially the WORST motheboard I've owned in 10 years.

I'm looking at a NF7-S but I'm a little discouraged after my horrible experience with ABIT's AN7. I would love a DFI but those things are very pricy.

I had similar problems with an Asus P4PE-X that went into spontaneous reboot under any kind of strain. Taking the memory settings back from CAS 2.5 (stock) to CAS 3 solved the problem, no crash since.

I don't get reboots, my games just crash to the desktop with an error message or none. The memory is perfectly fine, memtest runs hours upon hours at 2-2-2-6 @ 200mhz. I already disassembled my system and packed the motherboard up, this thing is getting the hell out tomorrow.

As far as purchases I think I'm going with the NF7-S. Does anyone know if the one on NewEgg is v2.0?

Abit AN7, maybe that is your problem. :p

Well mine should be here Friday, and maybe I will be RMAing it just as quick. :(

if your computer is unstable you will have corrupt data building up over time... i would agree with you if its a case of spending cash to upgrade a computer that runs everything except prime but i prefer to lose a few mhz than to be formatting more than i have to

That is true, but my last system ran 2 months highly overclocked.. Not too concered. I formatted to get a fresh copy with all my new hardware, we will see how it does.

BTW I looped 3DMark2001 56 times tonight @ the current speeds - 1MHz more on my FSB = crash but I guess this setting is fine, eh? ;)

Have you tried giving your ram 2.7 or 2.8V? When I built my system in October I got a gig of Mushkin Black Level 2, and it was unstable at 2.6V. To get it to run right I had to give it 2.7V, and to overclock my processor (ram run at 5:4 put it under 200MHz on a P4C), I had to up it to 2.8V

really, 2 WHOLE months? :)

i get pissed off at 6 months, but i suppose its fair in the balanace of the world that those without patience should suffer slightly lower clock speeds

Highly agree ... I used to run my PC like that ... but these days ... work is priority, and I don't have the time to mess with it everytime it takes the fritz ... so 2500@3200 is enough for me ... running like this since Dec of 02 ...

My memory was running at 2.7v during my testing. The AN7 is just a crappy board. All the reviews I've seen praise the NF7-S v2 as the second coming so it should be very nice.

My NF7-S v2 should be here tomorrow:) Ugh I'm going to have to do another clean install of windows xp pro and I'm going to have to call them because of the retarded activation thingy.(yesterday I got a guy who could barely speak english, I was like what? every 10 seconds lol)

You should not need to reinstall since it's the same chipset ....

6 months total, the last two being highly overclocked, I formatted because I switched motherboards, not because I had problems :) The time before, I reformatted to swap to XP. Haven't had a system crash in a long time.

Oh no, it cant do basic math, thats completly irrelevenet in a computer

run memtest86 and see what it says...then again who cares what a program says, right rizen?

Are you being sarcastic kronchev? You DO know that a computer operates 100% using math right? If a computer couldn't do basic math it wouldn't even work...

Well since I can loop through 3DMark2001 over 50 times without problems, and my computer runs my GAMES and APPLICATIONS fine without crashing, I am not greatly concerned with the ability to find huge prime numbers  OH noes Prime95 doesn't work save my computar!

BTW I ran Windows Memory Test through several times, no problem..

I actually haven't tried Prime on my current setup, the one it was failing on was my OC'd KR7A-RAID setup. Even so, people put way too much emphasis on Prime95.

i can't seem to get anything on this board, what are your complete specs so i can give it yet another shot with my 2500+?

My personal ...

MSI K7N2 Delta-L
Barton 2500+ @ 3200+
Copper Heatsink
2x 256 Corsair PC3200
1x 512 Kingston PC4000
Gigabyte Radeon 9800 Pro (was 9700 PRO)
380W Antec TP (was 550 TP)
8X DVD writer

have FSB set to 200 ... everything else default ... memory on SPD ...

been running this for more than a year now ...

I've found nothing wrong with it personally, and I'm using one right now.

If it fails prime, then it's not calculating numbers correctly... so that means you're loading screwed numbers into you're RAM... now... what's stored in RAM might get stored into your harddrive... once you get corupted data into your harddrive.. eventually everything is gonna start acting retarded on your system... honestly if it doesn't past prime with zero errors i would never keep running the system... sure you won't see problems.. but chances are in the long run you will...

It's never okay for a computer to make one mistake.. that's not good lol... that can get peopel killed... ever see space odyssey 2001? :D

please dont ever ask anyone here for computer help, as ill try hard to remember that you dont seem to like complete stability. enjoy corruption.

Ok, and I'll let you know next time I experience a corruption-related crash

Seriously, please take your "holier than though" attitude and shove it up your ass. I don't know what your problem is but you certainly don't need to be such a jerk.

I don't think he's projecting a "holier than thou attitude".. i think it's more of a "suit yourself" attitude, cause he doesn't approve lol.. but yeah.. honestly i'd have to agree with kronchev on this.. as i said before.. if my system failed prime.. i would do what i have to, to make sure it doesn't fail... weather it's upping votlage cause it's an overclock.. or just RMAing a defective processor..

Because if prime fails, then your system cannot carry out simple mathmatics. It's adding 2+2 and getting 5. It's not working right, it's not functioning correctly. It may be "stable", but it's not 100% right.

The AN7 was so bad it was rounding a number up to .49999999995 instead of just .4. I think I might have seen that same rounding error with my ASUS motherboard after 6 minutes... uh oh my CPU better not be fucked...

I'm sorry, it just sounded more like a personal attack than anything else. I respect his decision to run Prime, I just don't put the importance on it that everyone here does.

You know why?

Because I have been OC'ing systems for years and not Prime testing and rarely have I had corruption problems - and most of the times those problems have been from bad RAID controllers.

If he wants to disagree with my beliefs on Prime testing than fine, but to suggest completely ignoring me or anything that I say? Ok, whatever. I try to help everyone on these forums and I do so in a generally pleasant manner. I don't think people need to get so damn hostile.

EDIT: BTW I am Priming my computer right now, just to see how it does :) Does that make everyone happy? And yes I will post results. So fars, its good. :p
