I just wanted to know how much gfx cards will drop soon.

I am going to build a comp. in the summer once I have enough money (just got a job), and I know that all the new cards are coming out before that.

So I just wanted to know how much will 6800 GT's drop until summer? because I was going to get one in the summer for my build, maybe another one in the future for SLI.

The spirits say $10, but they've been drinking......

What kind of question is this?

I'me just asking whats your guesses or estimates, not real drops.

So far I've heard down to $200

dont bust the guys ballz

hard to tell man... the 9800series is more than the 6600GT's yet the 6600 GT's are better...

From now until mid-summer the 6800 GT will probably drop at most $50-$60. I am basing this off of previous cards I have watched decline while waiting to purchase.

I wasnt busting no balls. :(
And yeah old cards still cost a bit. They squeeze and squeeze every cent out of us cause there are some that will still buy the old cards and help them get bigger bonuses...

The problem is that no one can tell you anything meaningful, as they can't guess the future. Our guesses and estimates are meaningless. :)

This's isnt a pointless question. Some (most?) of us have seen several generation transitions and it isn't entirely impossible to predict what will go on.

My prediction for this summer is a 10 to 15 percent drop on mid-end cards. Stuff like the 9800 pro will phase out or age to gray before it becomes cheap and available at the same time, so little action there. You'll have stuff like the 9600 series available for a bit longer, imo, and it will drop super cheap.

Don't expect the jump to a 6800 or x850 series card to become painless for a while yet though. My best guess is january of next year before they lower substantially.

That said, we just came off of the longest graphics generation I remember (how long was the 9700 pro at or near the top? wow) so there are many variables. Right now it seems to be that manufacturing is the only bottleneck for NV and ATI, and apparently not a huge problem, and the technology is moving pretty fast. It seems like both companies needed an R&D bonanza after their r300 and gffx lines.

Um, you can get a 9800 Pro for $150 whereas it costs $175-200 for the 6600GT. But yes, it is true the 6600GT is considerably faster than the 9800 Pro.

ok. the 98XT is still about the same price... and which 98pro, i know the 256mb 256bit ones are still up there 179.99 on newegg, the cheapest one a sapphire one. the lowest 6600 GT on newegg is 169.99...

newegg doesnt have 98XT on the list so i cant list a price for them

Newegg has the eVGA 6800GT PCI-E on sale right now for $359...

But they also have a x800xl for like $270. Unless you're going SLI, there's no real need for a 6800GT right now if price is an issue (speaking as someone who has 2 nvidia cards right now in SLI).
