gf wants a "pretty" laptop. for general use, so no need for high end things that get the price up to 1000$ (im assumg gfx cards)

pretty, lightweight, not a mini laptop.

ideas, or thoughts on how i can even go searching for junk like this?

What does "pretty" mean? I know for instance dell inspirons have colorful designs. But I more or less found them to be an eyesore (thick & bulky). You can even change the top cover. You could score a good deal this coming black friday @ Walmart or Target...

beats me what pretty means. your guess is as good as mine. exterior aesthetics is what i presume, without complete terrible quality on the display.

and yes, less bulk is a big plus.

will look into those mentioned in this thread, but any under 500? for general use, dont think anything over 500 will be necessary or will help.

You could see if you could find one of those white MacBooks. Get her a pink speck case or something to go with it.

talk about picky. mba is too flimsy/tiny! :p

she is more interested in the xps 14z (sp?). costs 1000, but from what i know anything over 500ish would be because of gfx card?

Netbook, can o' pink krylon (masking tape is your friend!) and a coupla hello kitty stickers...

...that said, I have never had a gf so I'm talking out my ass at best...

She should probably play with an MBA before dismissing it... definitely not flimsy.

I think OP's budget was asking for something below 1000, cuz he doesn't mind integrated gpu's. What about a Sony Vaio? You can definitely find one around 500-600$. I like their design style, although I don't know about "pretty"...

My first thought was to say Macbook Air but I recon the 11" at $999 is too small?

Alternatively the Samsung 900X3A is pretty sleek and you can get refurbs at newegg under $1000

find an envy 14. Pretty and powerful.

this man is correct, more than any mbp or any other notebook model, the beats edition envy 14 (sans that B logo) is the single best looking laptop on the planet.

Wish they would make a refreshed 15" like that again.
