I have a laptop that came with vista home premium. But I'm having problems with windows and the recovery disc isn't doing much to help.

So I have a question:
If I find a non cracked iso of vista premium, can I use my own cd key to activate it, is it legal?

That would put it back to how you got it, or if its a branded os disc, then it'd be the same as an iso.
 
Well it's not really recovering anything, it's just rewriting the OS core files and not formatting the drive or anything.
 
What brand laptop is this? A recovery disc should wipe the drive clean and reload the system as if it was the day you bought it. It sounds to me like you are doing more of a repair install, instead.
 
Yes it will work. As a matter of fact, you can put your key in at the begining of the process and it will choose your OS for you then for you based on that, so you will know if it works or not.
