Either the citizens of Hamburg, Germany really like their Microsoft or really don’t like Apple. During construction, pranksters did a very professional job of adding a Windows logo to the Apple façade cover. It’s all in good fun and no computers were harmed in the prank :D
 
They really should have added a Penguin to the store since Apple OS is really just a poorly implemented Linux destribution at an infinitely greater price.
 
Maybe Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer got drunk and had a wild night in Germany?

More than that, Mac OS X is not UNIX either, they simply licenced the UNIX name. It is based/derived from Darwin, which itself is derived from NetBSD, neither of which are related(directly I mean, as in derived) to Linux.
 
You have to give it those Germans... with proper barriers and high visibility vests... I wonder if they didn't ask for a permit for this. Great job.

That was the first thing I noticed. I saw the picture and thought it was a story about a new Microsoft store that can't even get the logo right.

A for effort though.
 
I was sitting there watching the video, and it suddenly ended. I didn't even crack a smile. Maybe I'm missing something?

Everyone knows the Windows symbol, so it makes it more recognizable to the general public as a prank. I'd bet the majority of people wouldn't recognize the Linux logo.

It can also be pulled out of the name. Linux Is Not UniX :) Not really what it means but it works. Similar to Wine. There's a name for those kind of words/phrases but I forget what they're called!
 
i have an iphone 4 but not an apple fan, im a fan of good apps and a good defacing ala banksy. this is great due to one thing, apple users have way too many snobs.
 
That's hilarious. But since those guys are identifiable, lawsuit from Jobs coming in 3, 2, 1 ...

UNIX is copyrighted name only big companies are allowed to use the UNIX copyright and name, so IBM AIX and Sun Solaris and HP-UX all are UNIX operating systems. The Open Group holds the UNIX trademark in trust for the industry, and manages the UNIX trademark licensing program.

But if you consider Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) standards then Linux can be considered as UNIX. To quote from Official Linux kernel README file:

Linux is a Unix clone written from scratch by Linus Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net. It aims towards POSIX compliance.
However, "Open Group" do not approve of the construction "Unix-like", and consider it misuse of their UNIX trademark.

Start up scripts
1. HP-UX - /sbin/init.d

2. AIX - /etc/rc.d/init.d

3. Linux - /etc/init.d

GUI, file, and windows managers (KDE, Gnome)
, Shells (ksh, csh, bash)

I don't understand your response.

It looks like you listed examples of a class (GUI, file managers, windows managers) KDE, Gnome

but I was pointing out that KDE and Gnome are Desktop Environments, not window managers. Not only that, but the only thing that makes them "in common" is the fact that they can be installed on both linux and UNIX, but they are by no means necessary nor "common" between the two.

From your own admission it's not POSIX compliant, how then can it be considered Unix?
